Sorry we have been so quiet of late, we have been really busy! But now we're back and apart from our success at the Wing Athletics we have:
Had a round of cadet promotions seeing cadets being rewarded for their leadership, skill development and personal standards being rewarded.
Welcomed on board FIVE new staff members who have joined us to support our youngsters - One staff member, Sgt Lucy Bell who is in Edinburgh studying at Heriot Watt University and bringing some new skills and new ideas to 870 from her original base in South England. She takes on the key Training Officer role and is already working to refresh and relaunch not just what we do but how we deliver
Welcomed 17 new recruits to the Squadron who are all getting stuck into cadet life.
Training for Staff with Mr Dave McBean working through his Climbing and Abseiling Instructor Course to allow our cadets to get involved in more Adventure Training and our own OC, Flt Lt Alan Sinclair RAFAC, being signed off as an Activity First Aid Instructor and a First Aid at Work Instructor.
Theres lots going on and lots has been missed but we promise to keep you up to date more often!

What a day..... We travelled to Grangemouth to compete against our Air Cadet colleagues in the Wing Athletics - and we did "not bad"
Every member of the team achieved at least one medal and a number achieved 3.......Better than that, the cadet team led by Civilian Instructor Dave McBean and Senior Cadet, CWO Katie MacLeod only went and WON THE WHOLE Competition!
Well done Team 870!!

2026 will see 8 Sqn start to operate the Wedgetail aircraft, and they will be doing so from a very smart new facility at RAF Lossiemouth. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

But, this facility needs a name and we want YOU to choose it ๐Ÿ‘€

Comment your suggestions for โ€˜8 Squadron HQโ€™ below and you could be naming the new home of the Wedgetail aircraft!

Deadline for suggestions is the 15th January 2026.

(P.S. I have already suggested Wedgey McWedgeface ๐Ÿ˜‰)
