Edinburgh University Russian Society The aim of the Edinburgh Russian Society is to promote Russian language, culture and heritage

Edinburgh University Russian society is a multicultural community with members from Russia and the Post-Soviet States, as well as from The United Kingdom, The United States and many other countries. Most of our members are students at The University of Edinburgh, however the Society is open to anyone willing to join. We welcome both Russian and non-Russian students, residents and guests of all age

s, as our events are diverse and most of them are either in English or multi-lingual. Our main aim is to promote Russian language, culture and heritage within the University and the local community, as well as to establish and strengthen links between Russia and the University. We try to bring together those interested in different aspects of Russian culture and provide a social platform for people to meet and socialise in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The University of Edinburgh Russian society cooperates with local charity organisations such as the Scotland-Russia Institute and Princess Dashkova Russian Centre. Additionally, we work together with many different institution, societies and clubs in Edinburgh to ensure a variety of different experiences for our members. The Society arranges frequent cultural events devoted to Russian, Scottish and international culture and holidays, along with talks and lectures by world famous figures. Our past speakers include politicians, journalists, diplomats, writers and many others. The Society is not affiliated with any political party, which allows for events of great diversity.

🇷🇺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Edinburgh University Russian Society — Wreath-Laying at Dundee, 8 May 2026

On the eve of the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe, society members and Committee members of the Edinburgh University Russian Society had the privilege of participating in a public commemorative event in Dundee, laying wreaths and flowers at the Dundee International Submarine Memorial in honour of the crew of Soviet submarine B-1 and their commander, Israel Ilyich Fisanovich.

The Society’s participation in this act of remembrance stands as a fitting tribute, acknowledging not only the sacrifices of Soviet submariners in the common struggle against Na**sm, but also the shared history that bound Allied forces to the city of Dundee during the Second World War.
