Dear Candidate,

I am writing to all candidates standing for a seat in Edinburgh in the next Scottish Parliament.

At last night’s ETUC meeting, delegates from across a range of trade unions agreed that they want to know more about the policies that you stand for.

Edinburgh Trades Union Council comprises at least 36 trade union branches and at least 20,000 trade union members living and working in Edinburgh and the surrounding locale.

As voters in the upcoming elections, we would welcome your answers to the questions below to help us make informed decisions about our individual choice of MSP.

Please reply to this email with your responses to the questions which I will then share with our delegates, including branch secretaries who will share to their individual members across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Many thanks.

Claire Robertson

Secretary/Treasurer Edinburgh Trade Union Council

Workers’ Rights

Will you support the STUC Workers' Manifesto call to expand collective bargaining? Will you lobby the UK government to repeal anti-trade union legislation that restricts the right to strike?

Privatisation

What is your position on the privatisation of public services including NHS, transport, education, utilities and government? Are you in favour of the re-nationalisation of services already privatised?

Investing in people not war

Would you advocate for a reduction in UK military spending and an end to our foreign wars? Instead, you could use that funding to invest in public sector infrastructure like green transport, council housing and the welfare state. We believe that prioritising UK human security and community resilience over foreign conflicts would be a better approach. Do you agree?
