Society of Recorder Players Edinburgh Branch

Society of Recorder Players Edinburgh Branch New recorder players always welcome. Bring a music stand and a pencil. The hall is open from 7.15 so we are ready to play at 7.30. Please bring a mug.

The Edinburgh branch of the Society of Recorder Players meet on Mondays 19.25 (arriving from 7 ready to play 7.25) to 21.30 at Christ Church Morningside Church Hall. The Edinburgh branch of the Society of Recorder Players meets each Monday evening at Christ Church Morningside Church Hall from September to June (excluding major holidays) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There is an interval with refreshments

. Our musical directors are Anne Martin and Peter Wraith, and members play all recorders from sopranino to contra-bass. We usually prepare one very informal evening concert each year, in Spring, in addition to preparing music for our own enjoyment. We have an extensive repertoire, everything from consort music and Bach fugues to Strauss polkas to modern sea shanties. One to a part playing in various sized consorts is encouraged, and groups of members meet, usually in each others' houses, to rehearse ensemble music. There is no minimum entry standard, though confidence in sight-reading is a definite advantage as is the ability to play most of the notes in the 1st 2 octaves of the instrument. If you are unsure, why not contact us and come along to see what we get up to? You will need to bring your own music stand and instruments (although we do have a bass and a great bass recorder which can be borrowed, if you would like to try out the lower instruments). The branch also organises playing days and other events which are open to non-members, which are a great opportunity to come along and meet everyone and join in the wonderful world of recorder playing. We are a branch of The Society of Recorder Players www.srp.org.uk/ which is the national organisation representing all things recorder. This central organisation also holds events and festivals and gives us the opportunity to visit other branches to meet and play with other lovely recorder players.

Our Spring concert is on Monday. All welcome. Details in events and on programme.
