Our new Progressing Children's Rights Report highlights the difference children's voices can make. 🤝

One of the key themes throughout the report is participation and the role children and young people play in helping shape our work.

Our Experts by Experience do more than share their views. They help influence decisions across CHS, using their experiences to shape recruitment, learning, participation work and future improvements.

Their voices help us understand what works well, what could work better and how we can keep improving for children and young people.

We would encourage you to attend an online information session hosted by the Chair of Children’s Hearings Scotland at 5.30pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026, where we will be discussing the role and the appointment process and you will have the opportunity to meet members of the CHS Board and ask questions.

Children’s rights have always been important to us. Now we can show you the progress we’ve made.

Today we're publishing our Progressing Children's Rights Report 2023-2026.

The report looks at how we've worked to support and uphold children's rights over the last three years, and how children and young people have helped shape that work through their experiences, views and ideas.

We've created different versions of the report so everyone can choose the one that's right for them, including a child-friendly version shaped by our Experts by Experience.

This week we'll be sharing more about the voices, experiences and changes behind the report.

Our September Board meeting was held at Rossie, one of the UK’s longest established providers of children’s services, providing CHS National Convener Elliot Jackson and Board members with the opportunity to meet the Rossie Board and Executive Team and learn more about developments in secure care and the work Rossie Young People's Trust do to support young people.

They were joined by Neil Rennick, Director-General for Education and Justice at the Scottish Government. Elliot and Neil were delighted to help officially open the Tay Skills Academy, created in partnership with Dundee and Angus College which aims to give young people the skills and experience to improve their chances of finding and sustaining future employment. 🤝

We're looking for a new Board Member to help guide Children's Hearings Scotland through a period of significant change while keeping the rights, wellbeing and experiences of children and young people at the heart of every decision.

This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, support good governance and help improve outcomes for children, young people and families across Scotland.
