Aisha reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say during it?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Say: O Allah, You are forgiving. You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”

‎السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven .”
Sahih Al Bukhari 2014

Assalamu Alaikum

We have invited Dr. Jaan Islam to ISocEd to give a talk about the abolishment of the Khilafah.

Dr. Jaan Islam is a Postdoctoral researcher in Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford. He received his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in addition to traditional training in Islamic Law. He writes and lectures on Islamic political thought and Muslim identity in the West, and is the author of several books and articles.

Assalaamu’alaikum everyone!

For our next Tuesday event we are excited to have the speaker from the Refugee from Russia Podcast join us online to speak about the reality for the Muslims in Russia beyond the UFC Octagon. Many are not familiar with the topic so this event will hope to spread awareness of the situation as well as the impact on the lives of many. There will be opportunity to ask questions.

The event will follow a hybrid format so you can either join us at G.07 Meadows Lecture Theatre, Doorway 4 of the Medical School at Teviot, or on Zoom (link will be released closer to the time).

Salaam everyone!

As we approach the end of another academic year, we look forward to welcoming new committee members to ISocEd.

There are a variety of roles to apply for, and InshaAllah on March 5th we will hold our AGM, and all members of the society will be able to vote for the new committee.

The Google form to sign up for a role will be available in our bio and will close on Sunday 3rd of March, so make sure to fill it out if you are interested.

Assalaamu’alaikum dear brothers and sisters! ☺️

We have arranged a blood drive at Edinburgh Blood Donor Centre (on Lauriston Place near campus) during the last week of February. This will be a great opportunity to serve the community by potentially saving lives just before Ramadan! Remember, “whoever saves a life it is as if they have saved all of mankind”. 🩸

The way it works is that we will send an email to your inbox which will explain the steps for you to book an appointment slot to donate in groups of 5. So look out for that email and encourage all your mates to join you into doing a good deed as you prepare yourself for Ramadan! ✨
