Society of Antiquaries of Scotland

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland Members of the Society are elected Fellows at the Anniversary Meeting, our AGM, on St Andrews Day each year.

Founded in 1780, we are a membership charity that supports the study and enjoyment of Scotland’s past by publishing books and peer-reviewed papers, supporting research, running lectures, managing ScARF and Dig It!, and more. As a charitable learned Society we are governed by a voluntary Council and the day-to-day organisation and running of the Society is carried out by dedicated full and part tim

e staff. We have thousands of Fellows around the world and Fellows can use the post-nominals "FSAScot".

🌍 What is the role of museums in anti-racist activism in Scotland, and how can heritage organisations embed anti-racist practice into all areas of their work?

The newly-published ‘White Thinking’ report highlights the lessons learned from anti-racism projects at heritage organisations across Scotland. It’s an invaluable resource for museums and galleries that are seeking to put inclusive practice at the heart of their work and policies: museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk/project/white-thinking/

The ‘White Thinking’ project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and led by staff at the University of Strathclyde and Edinburgh Napier University, working in partnership with CRER Scotland, David Livingstone Birthplace, Fondation Lilian Thuram, Glasgow Life presents, HMS Unicorn, Museums Galleries Scotland, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

STORIED COLLECTION: Blairquhan Castle

Deep in the rolling countryside of South Ayrshire, Blairquhan Castle sits in the heart of Burns country, the landscape that inspired Scotland's most beloved poet.

Blairquhan is one of 13 Scottish properties in the portfolio of Storied Collection, our new heritage preservation partner.

Their five-year commitment will help support our £1.5 million campaign to establish Scotland's first national heritage hub in Edinburgh, ensuring Scotland's extraordinary stories are preserved and shared for future generations: https://www.socantscot.org/news/society-partners-with-storied-collection-to-support-1-5m-national-heritage-hub-campaign/
