🇺🇦 Ukrainian Independence Day Rally and Sunday Hike

On Saturday at 14:00, we will gather to mark Ukrainian Independence Day in Edinburgh. We will mark Ukraine’s freedom, culture, identity and resilience, whilst showing our continued support for Ukrainian Defenders and POWs. On the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukrainian independence, we honour those defending Ukraine who continue to keep Ukraine’s borders free and sovereign. For generations, Ukrainians have fought for their independence, and this struggle continues today.

This Sunday, Ukraine will celebrate National Flag Day. For the past two years, we have proudly kept a tradition of climbing to the highest point in Edinburgh and raising Ukrainian flags at the summit.

August 12 marks the Geneva Convention Day - this August, still over 7,000 Ukrainians continue to be in captivity. This week, Ukraine has recovered the bodies of 375 civilians and military personnel murdered by russia during their captivity. In addition, Ukraine’s Commissioner for Human Rights stated that 345 were executed at the time of their surrender.

We urge the public to speak up for the most vulnerable. Captivity is hell - call for the release of Ukrainian captives.

No fuel - no war. russia's war machine runs on oil. Every tank, every bomber, every missile launcher depends on fuel. When Ukraine strikes russian oil refineries and fuel infrastructure, it is hitting the engine that fuels the invasion. Ukraine's long-range strikes on russian fuel infrastructure are a legitimate and effective way to defend itself in an asymmetric war. These operations have significantly reduced russia's refining capacity, making it harder to sustain its war of aggression.

This Saturday, join us to support Ukraine's long-range strikes. Supporting Ukraine is the best way to stop the war from spreading. Every successful Ukrainian strike against russia's war machine is a step to ending the war by pressuring the aggressor.

Ukraine is a strong partner defending European security with courage, innovation, and determination. Stand with Ukraine. Stand for justice. Stand for a future where aggressors pay the price for war, and where democracies support those fighting for freedom.

Four Years Since Olenivka: Remembering the Victims, Demanding Justice

On the night of July 28–29, 2022, russia has brutally killed Ukrainian POWs in captivity. Tomorrow we commemorate the victims of the Olenivka terrorist attack, as their families continue to call for justice.

Ukrainians all across the globe come together on these dates to remember the fallen heroes who defended Ukraine. July 28th marked the day of remembrance of Ukrainian POWs killed in russian captivity.

This event is dedicated to remembering those who lost their lives, supporting the survivors who continue to live with the consequences of severe injuries, and standing in solidarity with the defenders who remain in captivity and their families who continue to wait for their return.

By remembrance, testimony, and public advocacy, we seek to keep the truth about Olenivka alive and to draw attention to the ongoing struggle of Ukrainian POWs. Four years later, many families continue to search for answers, accountability, and justice.

Tomorrow we are holding Public Action to show our support for Ukrainian POWs and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We urge you to join us in amplifying the message that peace needs not only words of support but also actions. Crucial action for peace is arming Ukraine to be able to resist the aggressors.

We are proud to announce that we have completed the 20th aid request from Ukrainian Defenders - this support directly saves lives and protects Ukraine. Throughout the 20 requests, by working together with different soldiers, volunteers and grassroots charities, we were able to reach the most remote and crucial parts of the frontline. The aid does not stop there, as UVC has funded 17 further projects - supporting soldiers and volunteers to acquire the crucially needed equipment.

We were able to achieve this by many of our activists and volunteers working together with a set goal in mind. Speaking about war in Ukraine is insufficient unless it brings clear results on the battlefields - we are continuing to work on the many requests coming in.

Join us for a public action in solidarity with thousands of Ukrainian civilians who remain unlawfully detained in russian prisons, occupied territories, and detention centres.

Since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, countless civilians have been abducted, imprisoned, and held without due process. Teachers, journalists, local officials, volunteers, community leaders, and ordinary citizens have disappeared into a system of captivity where many face isolation, abuse, and denial of basic human rights.

The human safari in Kherson continues as the russian military continues to target civilians on a daily basis, hitting public transport and those on the street with FPV drones. Having access to a camera on the drone allows the operator to see the target and accurately target the drone - such russians are using this to bomb with impunity clearly civilian objects and further celebrating the hits.

🚫 We call for sanction mechanisms and travel restrictions to be put on those involved in targeting civilians in human safari - drone pilots and parts manufacturers. We urge the public to raise awareness of the ongoing human safari by writing to your MP urging the UK government to implement clear steps to target the responsible criminals.

📢 Further spreading the message tomorrow, we will gather to speak with the public, bringing forward the need for action. We call on you to join us.

Public Action Event: Ukraine Needs Air Defence Missiles

This week, Kyiv was hit by russia with the largest attack over the last two years. Every day, Ukrainian cities come under attack from the russian missiles and drones, indiscriminately targeting homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure. Behind every successful interception is an air defence missile that protects lives - the weapons NATO stores in warehouses could save lives today.

Today Ukraine marks the day of Anti-Aircraft Missile Forces - the same forces that shoot down russian rockets to save lives and keep Ukraine functioning.
Ukraine's air defence forces have saved countless civilians, but the systems can only operate when they have the missiles needed to stop incoming attacks.

Every interceptor used to defend a city must be replaced, and the need is urgent and constant. As the casualty toll continues to rise in Kyiv, we must urge action from the UK government to provide Ukraine with the air defence capabilities protecting against the russian terrorism.

Tomorrow we amplify this message: Ukraine needs air defence.

Today is the international observance in Support of Victims of Torture. On this day, over 7,000 Ukrainian POW continue to remain in russian captivity.

Over 90% of Ukrainians returning from russian captivity reported being tortured - for russia torture is an institutional method, which involves not only russian forces, but also medical workers and educational staff. Torture in captivity is not only about adults, as chambers for children were uncovered in liberated Kherson. Human rights organisations have published multiple accounts and horrific stories of the brutality of the russian regime - yet the UN is continuing to fail Ukrainians and condemn russian atrocities.

Speak up for the oppressed. Tomorrow in Edinburgh we are holding a Public Action to bring public awareness about the ongoing violations and abuses in russian captivity against Ukrainians. We call for freedom - be the voice of the captives.

This week russia has again launched a mass attack on Ukraine, targeting multiple cities and places of cultural significance.

In particular, hitting Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Dovzhenko film studio, the Art Museum in Kharkiv and Music Hall Dnipro - all in the space of a day. Targeting Ukraine’s cultural and historic heritage is an ongoing russian tactic to erase Ukraine’s history. Despite the russian attacks, UNESCO shamefully still failed to call out russia on the atrocities.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, from 2014 to 2026, Russia stole over 7.8 million cultural heritage objects from museums in the temporarily occupied territories and since 2022 russia has damaged or destroyed almost 2,000 cultural monuments in Ukraine.

Ukrainians urge the world not to be silent - attacks on civilian objects is a crime and the perpetrators must be held accountable. Ukraine has the right to self-defence, and we have a moral duty to arm Ukraine. Rally our call on this Saturday:
