This week russia has again launched a mass attack on Ukraine, targeting multiple cities and places of cultural significance.

In particular, hitting Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Dovzhenko film studio, the Art Museum in Kharkiv and Music Hall Dnipro - all in the space of a day. Targeting Ukraine’s cultural and historic heritage is an ongoing russian tactic to erase Ukraine’s history. Despite the russian attacks, UNESCO shamefully still failed to call out russia on the atrocities.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, from 2014 to 2026, Russia stole over 7.8 million cultural heritage objects from museums in the temporarily occupied territories and since 2022 russia has damaged or destroyed almost 2,000 cultural monuments in Ukraine.

Ukrainians urge the world not to be silent - attacks on civilian objects is a crime and the perpetrators must be held accountable. Ukraine has the right to self-defence, and we have a moral duty to arm Ukraine. Rally our call on this Saturday:

📢 7000 Ukrainian POWs and 9000 civilians continue to be held in russian detention for many months and years. Most captives undergo regular beatings and other methods of torture and extortion conducted by russians. russian captivity is a slow death.

The families of the captives continue to wait for the unknown as russia once again fails to fulfil its international obligations. This time is crucial for showing our solidarity with the good against the evil and for giving Ukrainian voices space to engage with the Scottish public.

We welcome everyone who supports Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty. Together, we must continue to send a message that russian terrorism is not a form of diplomacy. Join us to amplify this message.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us yesterday and made this evening happen. We sincerely thank all UVC activists, hosts and attendees for making such an impactful evening.

Amongst sharing crucial information we are also proud to announce that the event has raised £502 for the needs of 429 UAV Battalion.

As Ukraine marked the day of the Marines in May, many of the heroes remain in russian captivity for over 4 years. Ukrainian Marines are one of the elite units in the Ukrainian army and have taken part in the most daring battles across the front, including the defence of Mariupol.

According to the latest official statements, over 7,000 Ukrainian POWs continue to remain in the russian captivity, and an additional 10,000-20,000 civilians. During their illegal captivity, 95% of the detainees are subject to torture. Hundreds of bodies returned by russia have signs of death in captivity.

Join us tomorrow for our Public Action - the captives need our voice.

🗓️ Date: Saturday, 30 May 2026
⏰ Start time: 14:00
📌 Location: Next to the Statue of the Duke of Wellington, 9 Waterloo Pl, Edinburgh EH1 3BG

It is vital that people around the globe continue to put pressure on russian authorities to end their systematic terror against Ukrainians in captivity. russian captivity is a slow and painful death, yet russia is systematically using captivity as a tool of repression and genocide. We must hold the perpetrators to account for their crimes.

In January 2026, we received a request from snipers in the 123rd Brigade. This unit has been working to defend Kherson and was also transferred to support efforts in the Donbas direction. The unit's specialisation means they are urgently required across different parts of the frontline, and their work ranges from regular tasks to highly specialised missions. Being on the move and holding positions requires a constant, stable supply of power and communications - portable power stations and portable internet antennas are key to daily tasks.

UVC activists began sourcing and purchasing the requested equipment in the following weeks after the request. With a combination of volunteer efforts, the equipment was delivered to Ukraine throughout late February and early March 2026. To complete this request, UVC has spent £999.27 to order and deliver one Starlink and two Ecoflow Delta 2 stations.

This was the 14th “Direct Request” completed by UVC to help Ukrainian frontline troops. We are extremely grateful to all the defenders of Ukraine whose work is now keeping Ukraine independent, and we are proud that the efforts of all of our supporters and activists in Edinburgh help to make a contribution to this. Whilst this is just a fraction of the very large number of requests we have incoming, it directly helps save lives and bring about peace. Your support remains vital.

At the end of February 2026, we received a crucial request from the 22 UAV battalion defending in the Sumy direction. The unit has worked relentlessly to protect Ukraine from the north and was in urgent need of generators to prevent further russian advance.

Due to multiple open requests, we began working on this request in early April 2026. The request was completed in the following days through our activists in Kharkiv, and in several days, the unit had two generators restocked and running.

By uniting our community in Edinburgh, we had researched the market, raised the required sums and purchased two generators in Ukraine. Our activist in Kharkiv quickly found the best deal, made the purchase, and organised the delivery. The total cost of this project was £693.74 - the lives saved are priceless.

Little steps make a big difference as this was our 18th “Direct Request” completed, and together with 15 “Fundraiser Support” projects, marks the 33rd successful project to aid Ukrainian Defenders on the frontline. We are sincerely thankful to all of our volunteers, activists, and supporters who come together to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Our efforts continue to save lives on the ground and help the most important people in Ukraine.

On May 23, Ukraine marks the Day of Heroes. For many decades, Ukrainians have been honouring the memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the struggle of Ukraine’s freedom and independence.

The Day of Heroes has become reinvigorated since russia’s aggression began in 2014 and escalated into full-scale war in 2022. It now stands as a day to honour those defending Ukraine today - those continuing to work to keep Ukraine’s borders untouchable, independent and free.

This Saturday, we will remember those who have fallen and those who continue to fight for a free and independent Ukraine.

With the ongoing russian terrorism, Europe is again facing a tyrannical despot in a bloody war against na**sm. The civilised world is united in support of Ukraine against the new na**sm that fully mirrors the ideology that was defeated in 1945. The evil is happening again as ruzzia is continuing its genocide against Ukrainians.

Tomorrow we will gather to raise awareness and show our support to those defending freedom and democracy against the terrorist Russian regime. Once again, the world is united, and we urge Scotland to support the Defenders of freedom.

Join us tomorrow at 14:00 near the Duke of Wellington Monument in Edinburgh. We will have themed posters and flags with us, and you are welcome to bring yours as well. We value all our activists and the friendly atmosphere. We welcome all who support the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the release of Ukrainian captives.
