Teach at EOW

We’re always interested in hearing from makers, craftspeople, artists, designers, and specialists who would like to share their skills through classes and workshops at Edinburgh Open Workshop.

Whether you already teach, have an idea for a one-off workshop, or would like to develop a new course, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re particularly interested in practical, hands-on learning experiences that help people build confidence, learn new skills, and make things for themselves.

Woodworking, metalwork, textiles, fabrication, repair, design, craft, and creative making are all welcome — but we're equally interested in hearing new ideas we may not have considered yet.

If you have knowledge you'd like to share, get in touch and start a conversation.

Making together in the workshop.

A member recently came into the workshop to make a chopping board and brought a friend along for the session.

What started as a simple woodworking project quickly became a two-person build. After shaping and finishing the boards, we added a personalised CNC detail to make each one unique.

From design on screen → CNC machining → hand finishing, it was a great example of how different tools and processes come together in the workshop.

By the end of the session, both boards were finished, oiled, and ready to take home.

It's always nice to see people sharing the making experience and leaving with something they've created themselves.

What happens when you make creativity feel genuinely welcoming?

Over the past year, Edinburgh Open Workshop's Community Engagement programme has connected with families, young people, community groups and local organisations across Leith, creating opportunities to make, learn and build confidence through creativity.

Led by Community Engagement Officer Julie, the programme has helped strengthen EOW's connection with the local community, creating more opportunities for people to explore new skills, meet others and get hands-on with making.

From children building miniature worlds from workshop off-cuts, to community groups designing and making their own furniture, to employability programmes helping young people gain qualifications and practical experience, the impact has reached far beyond the workshop floor.

We're also delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland has awarded funding for a second year, allowing the programme to continue growing and creating even more opportunities for local people to connect through creativity.

Need more than a pull-up banner?

When Campervan Brewery needed a branded presence for the Allergy & Free-From Show, we helped bring the whole thing together.

Using their existing branding as a starting point, we produced a range of custom-built point-of-sale elements, including:

• Freestanding signage
• A branded bar front
• Large-scale props and display pieces
• Laser-cut keyrings and giveaways
• CNC-cut logo elements and lettering

Everything was designed and manufactured in-house, allowing the branding to carry consistently across the entire stand while remaining easy to transport, assemble and reuse.

Whether you're exhibiting at a trade show, festival, conference or product launch, we can create bespoke display pieces that help your brand stand out from the crowd.

Got an event coming up? We'd love to chat.

Small batch? No problem 🪵

Over the past month, EOW member Fionan has been working on a handmade batch of coasters for his colleagues at Eastern Green Link 2 - laminating together timber offcuts before refining each piece in the workshop using the table saw, chop saws and router table.

On Saturday, we helped machine the company emblem and cup recesses into the finished blanks using the CNC router.

The interesting part? Every coaster had slightly different dimensions, so each one needed its own setup and a bit of individual attention along the way.

That’s one of the things we love about Made@ - whether it’s a one-off prototype, a small batch run or something a bit fiddly that bigger manufacturers might turn away, we can usually help find a practical way to make it happen ✨

❤️ Personal touches make the best gifts.

This custom chopping board was created as a wedding gift for a pair of campervan enthusiasts, combining hand-finished hardwood with personalised laser engraving.

Using the laser cutter, we were able to turn a simple image into engraved artwork, adding names and a wedding date to create something completely unique to the couple.

A great example of how laser engraving can turn everyday objects into lasting keepsakes. You can choose the type of wood, board shape and engraving design, and we’ll help bring the idea to life.

Perfect for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, housewarmings or meaningful keepsakes.

📩 Get in touch if you’d like to create a personalised gift or discuss a custom engraving project.
