From NICU mums to SSCB fundraisers 💛

Former SSCB Trustee Lauren and her friend Carrie first met in work, bonding over Neonatal Unit experiences.

Last week, they came together once again to support families following a similar journey, holding a fundraising stall at The Scottish Government building at Victoria Quay and selling SSCB merchandise.

Together, they raised an incredible £560+ for SSCB. 🎉

A huge thank you to Lauren, Carrie and everyone who stopped by to support them. Your generosity will help us continue supporting babies, children and families when they need it most. 💛

🎉 A huge congratulations and thank you to Nick, who completed the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and raised an incredible £2,120 for Simpsons Special Care Babies!

Nick took on the challenge in support of SSCB after his son, Oscar, spent the first four months of his life receiving specialist care at the Simpson Neonatal Unit.

Reflecting on his achievement, Nick said:

“I am delighted to say I managed to complete it and raise over £2000 for SSCB. I really hope that goes some way to helping the unit that did so much for our family with Oscar when he arrived early and shows our appreciation.

Those months in the unit were some of the most challenging we’ve ever faced - but thanks to the skill, dedication, and compassion of the staff, Oscar received the best possible start in life.

We will forever be grateful for the tireless work the team does, not just for Oscar, but for so many premature and sick babies and their families. This marathon is our way of giving something back.”

Like so many families, Nick and his family experienced first-hand the challenges of having a premature baby in neonatal care. Thanks to the skill, dedication and compassion of the neonatal team, Oscar received the very best start in life.

Today, Oscar is thriving and seeing photos of him cheering on his dad alongside a picture from his earliest days in the unit is a powerful reminder of just how far he has come.

Every pound raised helps SSCB continue supporting babies, families and the neonatal unit, making a real difference when it is needed most.

Thank you, Nick, and everyone who donated, cheered him on and supported this incredible fundraising effort. 💙

“2 years ago moments like this seemed impossible.

With Caleb - our third son who was born at 26 weeks - fighting for his life in the NICU.

Today we celebrate him and the incredible teams that cared for him and so many other babies. We get to have him here with us today because of their hard work

The P3 families at ESMS Junior School enjoyed a Teddy Bears Picnic in support of Simpson’s Special Care Babies today! 🧸☀️

A lovely afternoon filled with (some!) sunshine, games, laughter, and plenty of favourite cuddly toys, all while raising money for an incredible volunteer-run charity supporting babies and families needing neonatal care.

During the event, Olivia Halvorsen-Gordon, charity trustee, shared her family’s personal connection to the charity alongside her P2 son, after he was born more than six weeks early, over seven years ago. They spoke about the support their family received and what the charity continues to mean to them today 💜

This week we would love to celebrate our neonatal graduates Rory and Callan who are celebrating their 2nd Birthday this week 🎂. Their journey began with the twins being born at 28 weeks gestation in Simpsons NNU and then transitioned onwards to St John’s SCBU to build their strength before going home. We received a beautiful message from mum and dad this week who were delighted to let us share their journey with you as below with their permission.

To the Teams at St John’s SCBU and Simpson’s NICU, This week. Rory and Callan turn two, and as this special milestone approaches, we felt it was the perfect moment to reach out, share an updated photo of them, and express our deepest gratitude.

There truly are no words strong enough to capture how thankful we are for everything you did for our boys. The care, skill, compassion, and dedication shown by your teams gave Rory and Callan the very best start in life. Because of you, we have been able to watch them grow, laugh, and thrive into the beautiful little boys they are today.

We are also so incredibly grateful for your unwavering patience and kindness, It did not go unnoticed, and it meant more to us than we can ever properly express.

You didn’t just care for our babies, you gave our family the most precious gift imaginable: the chance to build a life together filled with love, joy, and memories we cherish every single day.

Please know that we carry your kindness with us always, and we will never forget the incredible impact you have had on our lives.
