Over the years PEN has evolved into a dynamic global organisation committed to campaigning for writers under threat and supporting cross-cultural exchange. Scottish PEN’s international role

Scottish PEN plays an important role at International PEN’s annual congress and at the conferences that focus on the different aspects of PEN activity. In 2008 we hosted in Glasgow International PEN’s Writers

in Prison conference, which brought together writers from all over the world. A key feature of Scottish PEN is the development of international connections and exchange. Scottish PEN in Scotland

Events are organised throughout the year in different parts of Scotland. Regular highlights include the annual Scottish PEN lecture at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, and the annual Naomi Mitchison Memorial Lecture at the University of Glasgow. Scottish PEN initiates projects and works with other Scottish literature organisations to promote writing and reading in Scotland. Scottish PEN is run by an executive committee which meets about six times a year. Elections are held at the annual general meeting, usually in September.

Scottish PEN's Project Manager has begun a period of maternity leave which will affect the way we keep in touch with our members over the coming period.

Members hoping to reach us should direct all communications to our [email protected] address. Contacting us via this address is the best way to ensure a timely response, particularly as our level of office access remains limited and our capacity to monitor social media channels is now reduced.

Monthly member newsletters will continue to be delivered as usual, and we will share updates on this matter in due course.

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this period of transition.

Warm regards,

The Board of Scottish PEN
