It's Fossil Friday!

This week we have a fossil tibia collected just a couple days ago. This Edmontosaurus tibia (shown here still in the ground before it was collected) is in spectacular condition and will take very little work to prepare and be ready for research and display.

This one is special as it is from a sub-adult animal since it is about 62cm long. We have numerous large adult tibias from this site already that are about 80-90cm long. Finding this fossil as well as a few fossils from even smaller individuals adds valuable information about this being a mixed age herd.

Who Can Attend the 2026 Currie Family Convention?

We've received several excellent questions about who may register for the Currie Family Convention at Glasgow City Chambers on 14 November 2026, so we'd like to provide some clarification.

Everyone is welcome to register and attend the online portion!
Whether you're a Currie, a friend of the family, interested in Scottish history, or simply wish to witness this historic occasion, you're invited to watch online.

Who may vote?
Voting is reserved for qualified registered attendees who meet the Convention's published eligibility requirements. These currently include individuals who:
• Bear the Currie (or recognized variant) surname by birth, marriage, or adoption, or
• Do not bear the surname but have a parent who did.

All voting eligibility must be supported by the appropriate documentation during registration and is applied equally to all participants under the supervision of the Court of the Lord Lyon.

The 2026 Family Convention represents a remarkable moment in our shared history as members of the worldwide Currie family. Whether you participate as a voter, an observer, or simply to learn more about our remarkable heritage, we would be delighted to welcome you.

It's Fossil Friday! 🦴

Today we have a metacarpal or hand bone from a younger Pachyrhinosaurus. By itself this is an amazing fossil that holds information about this animal from the muscle and tendon scars on it and from the shape of the bone itself.

Though this one has additional features that make it fascinating for research and display. It has bite marks on it from where a carnivore gnawed on the bone to get the last bits of meat off it before the metacarpal was buried and fossilized. 🦖
