Yesterday SGS Open Garden visitors to Oakmore at Blairhoyle were treated to a wonderful garden in very pleasant early summer weather. The herbaceous borders were full of colour and buzzing with bees. Overhead there were swallows swooping and plenty other small birds to watch on the bird feeders. At the top of the garden I found the stone throne and enjoyed the view from there. On the way I took note of some interesting plants and flowers. Once back to the house cream tea on the patio was most welcome. If you missed it this year watch out for next year’s opening day.

THORNTREE Arnprior FK8 3EY
Sunday 7 June, 2pm - 5pm. Also open by arrangement 1 May - 1 September.
This cottage garden has evolved from growing dried flowers into triangle beds to meander through with more and more plants filling in the gaps. There are amazing views from Aberfoyle to the hills beyond to Doune. Last year, 2025, was a year of growth and everything did do exceptionally well, with little frost to impede plants, so lots had to be divided, therefore a good plant stall will be available. The garden is kept with the aid of WRAGs trainees - a new trainee started in November to help with all the compost spreading! Delicious Teas will be provided by the team from the Driving for the Disabled Group in Kippen.
Admission £6.00, children free for· Forth Driving Group RDA SCIO & WFGA

SGS Stirlingshire were off to a great start with the first Open Day at Dunblane yesterday. 250+ visitors enjoyed a pleasant afternoon visiting the 3 gardens, 2 of which were new to all of us. Three very different gardens were full of delightful areas to view. The plant sales area was buzzing with activity too. AND to top off the day there was a visit from Stirling Lord Provost, Rosemary Fraser.
For the garden visitors Strawberry Teas were available at the nearby church, St. Mary’s. There the Dunblane Mother’s Union welcomed many to the 150th Anniversary fundraising occasion.
Next week Mollan House near Thornhill invites garden lovers to see their beautiful spring displays. Open Sunday 17th. 12 noon - 4 pm.
