Looking for Autumn colour in Stirlingshire, why not visit the last of our 2026 Open Gardens:-

COLDOCH. Blairdrummond, Stirling FK9 4XD

Sunday 4 October, 2pm - 5pm
Admission £6.00, children free.

The garden at Coldoch is sheltered by belts of mature woodland on three sides and looks south over the Carse of Stirling. The parterre courtyard garden and border have replaced the old farm buildings and lead on to a kitchen garden created by using the three old walls of an earlier rose garden. The less formal areas include a stream, a pond, paddocks and woodland. The drives are lined with old oaks and sycamores mixed with new trees from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and some fine, mature cherry trees.

Nominated charity: Stirling and District Women's Aid 60%.

Directions: Signed from the A84. Take the A873 for Aberfoyle, after just under one mile turn left on to Coldoch Road, B8031 and continue for approximately half a mile. Wrought iron gates on the left mark the entrance.
Teas will be available and plants will be on sale.

An Open garden with a difference, today 60, Greenhead, Alva didn’t disappoint. Owner Lynn and her husband have made full use of this long narrow town garden with mixed beds of perennials and shrubs, and pots and pots of plants along side the twisting paths. There were many seating areas for visitors to enjoy their teas and cover overhead from the shower of rain. There’s so much recycling of containers to inspire us, and many creatures to spot in among the plants.

A wee reminder!

In Stirlingshire there are TWO Open Garden Days on Sunday 26th July.

KILLEARN VILLAGE have EIGHT gardens open from 12pm - 5pm.
Admission cost for all is only £7. There are new gardens to see.
Maps and tickets from the Killearn village Hall, as well as teas and plant stall.

At the other end of the Stirlingshire region 60 GREENHEAD, ALVA is open from 2pm- 5pm. Admission £6.00
This is a long narrow town garden with so many interesting features and great use of recycled materials.

Looks as if the hot weather is coming to an end with a bit of rain at last to freshen up the gardens, and more comfortable for walking around the gardens. Do come and visit them.

SGS Stirlingshire are delighted to have once again:-
KILLEARN VILLAGE GARDENS opening for charity.
This is A POP UP opening, not in the Yellow Book

SUNDAY 26th July. 12 - 5pm. £7.00 admission for all.
Tickets, maps, teas and plant stall are all at Killearn Village Hall.
Please purchase tickets before you start to view the gardens.

Killearn, at the foot of the Campsie Hills with fine views of Loch Lomond, is described as one of the prettiest villages in Stirlingshire.
Eight gardens, both large and small will be open. 6 of them are open for the first time.
A number of gardens feature a fine collection of acers plus water features, relaxed sitting areas and beautiful mixed borders. Some have been re-developed utilising raised beds or transformed through lockdown.

SGS Stirlingshire have 2 Garden Open days on Sunday 26th July.

60, GREENHEAD ALVA. Will be open from 2pm - 5pm. Admission for adults is £6.

60 Greenhead is a delightful hidden garden in Alva behind the primary school. Divided into ‘rooms’ with themes, two being Mediterranean and Oriental, there is extensive planting and clever use of pots throughout. Recycled materials are much in evidence, especially in the 'cosy' corner with a fireplace. There is a wide variety of shrubs, perennials and annuals as well as vegetables and fruit. There is a pond and a small wildlife area. There is also a 'folly' created during the lockdown of 2020. An inspiration for those trying to garden in a small space. There will be plants to buy from owner Lynn.
Directions: Signposted from the A91. Please park with consideration for other houses in the area.
Other details: Children to be accompanied by an adult.

The walled garden, acquired in 2013 by the present owners, has been planted with extensive herbaceous borders, box hedging, roses and many unusual plants. There is a White Garden, a long shrub border with primulas and gentians and a former fernery with a collection of salvias, argyranthemums and peach and pear trees. June is a good time to visit when the roses are in bloom and borders with lupins, peonies, campanulas and other perennials are in flower. In July/August there is a fine collection of phlox in all of the borders, followed by dahlias, Michaelmas daisies, rudbeckias and blue aconitums from August to October. The Celtic Cross Garden was planted in May 2021 with a range of new plants including echinaceas, cardoons, lobelias, anthemis and lavender for mid to late summer colour. There are fine views of the Campsie Hills and the garden is surrounded by the conifers of the Designed Landscape of Carbeth.
The Garden Owners welcome visitors at short notice (the day before planned visits). Small numbers and individuals are welcome

Yesterday SGS Open Garden visitors to Oakmore at Blairhoyle were treated to a wonderful garden in very pleasant early summer weather. The herbaceous borders were full of colour and buzzing with bees. Overhead there were swallows swooping and plenty other small birds to watch on the bird feeders. At the top of the garden I found the stone throne and enjoyed the view from there. On the way I took note of some interesting plants and flowers. Once back to the house cream tea on the patio was most welcome. If you missed it this year watch out for next year’s opening day.

Another beautiful garden in Stirlingshire is open on Sunday 14th June

OAKMORE. Blairhoyle, Port of Menteith, Stirling FK8 3LF
Open from 11am - 5pm, with admission £6.00, children free.

Oakmore is a 3.5 acre garden with spectacular views over the Menteith and Campsie Hills. From a woodland walk to large formal herbaceous borders, a rose garden to bog garden, there aims to be something interesting, unusual, and inspirational for everyone. Children are most welcome to get up close to nature with two natural ponds, a fish pond and meadow areas, and there is a south-facing, fully accessible patio for those who simply want to enjoy the views with a cream tea. There is partial wheelchair access.
There will be a good plant sale with many shrubs and herbaceous plants on offer.

This cottage garden has evolved from growing dried flowers into triangle beds to meander through with more and more plants filling in the gaps. There are amazing views from Aberfoyle to the hills beyond to Doune. Last year, 2025, was a year of growth and everything did do exceptionally well, with little frost to impede plants, so lots had to be divided, therefore a good plant stall will be available. The garden is kept with the aid of WRAGs trainees - a new trainee started in November to help with all the compost spreading! Delicious Teas will be provided by the team from the Driving for the Disabled Group in Kippen.

SCOTLAND’S GARDENS 2026.
Our gardens in Stirlingshire are awash with colour just now and 6 of them in Bridge of Allan will be open tomorrow 31st May from 1pm - 5pm. Visitors will be made welcome with an entry fee of £7.50 to view all of them. To find out where they are come to St Saviour’s Episcopal Church in Keir St for a ticket and map. Also at the church teas will be served, and a colourful array of plants can be purchased there too.
Don’t let the thought of a little rain put you off, the gardens are needing it to freshen things up for visitors tomorrow.
