Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society - SABS

Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society - SABS We work to socially include and integrate those amongst the youth, the women and the elderly.

SABS is a faith-based organisation working to meet the needs of Scottish Shia Muslims and society, generally, through civic, religious, educational, and humanitarian activities. The Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society is a faith-based ('Shia Ithna Ashari') organisation working to meet the needs of the Scottish Shia Muslim community and the breadth of society in general across the cultural, social, politic

al, and religious spectra. We work to engage with other communities and faiths; strengthening ties in an effort to create a setting for religious and racial harmony, equality, and diversity in the nation. We interface with civil society and the third sector, academic institutions, diplomatic and governmental bodies, religious leaders, and exert efforts towards grassroots, communal faith and interfaith activities, philanthropic drives and campaigns in our partnerships with national and international healthcare charities and trusts to better the nation’s physical and mental well being – highlighting the messages of humanity and good will. We are committed to educational workshops, seminars, gatherings and classes to address the needs and interests of the public in general, and the adherent of the Shia faith in particular, to enable people to attain an authentic and sophisticated understanding of the teachings of Shia Islam, as an ideology that can contribute to broader humanitarian discourse and spiritual development. We look to provide support, humanitarian and charitable aid nationally and beyond, practical assistance, counselling to the community, and relief to those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, or other disadvantage. We seek to foster dialogue, and interfaith and intrafaith engagement in the hopes to work towards a platform of mutual understanding, coexistence, trust and collaboration upon which our actions may be directed towards the betterment of the nation and beyond.

“I’m very fortunate to represent one of the most diverse constituencies in the country. And so I see on a daily basis – as an MSP, and in my work as First Minister – the contribution which is made by the Scottish Shia community, by Muslims in Scotland more generally, and by all of Scotland’s faith groups. They add to the diversity of our society and the strength of our communities. And so it’s great to celebrate an organisation which plays a hugely important part in that – the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society.”

~ First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon MSP

World Blood Donor Day 2026

Today, people across the globe mark World Blood Donor Day by recognising the incredible impact of voluntary blood donors who help save millions of lives every year.

The Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society is honoured to continue its partnership with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service - SNBTS, supporting blood donation drives held in memory of Imam Hussain (AS) and helping to encourage new donors across Scotland.

The need for blood is constant and every donation makes a real difference. If you can, please consider donating and encouraging others to do the same. You really can be someone’s hero.

SABS' Vice-Chair Kashan was honoured to attend the Edinburgh premiere of Blades of the Guardians at the historic Cameo Picturehouse, thanks to an invitation from Edward Tsang, SABS Patron and Chairman of the Association of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Scotland.

Directed by Yuen Woo-ping, the film beautifully showcases China's rich history, culture, and stunning desert landscapes through an engaging story set during the Sui Dynasty. The evening was a wonderful celebration of cinema and cultural exchange, bringing together guests from Scotland and China to enjoy this remarkable production.

SABS Co-Chair Ifty and Vice-Chair Kashan were delighted to take part in the Faith Leadership in Polarised Times consultation, hosted by the Interfaith Association and facilitated by the Woolf Institute as part of the Commission on Interfaith Relations: UK Faith Groups and Global Conflicts.

It was a meaningful and reflective gathering, bringing together faith and belief leaders to share experiences and insights on how international events can shape relationships within and between communities in the UK. The discussions highlighted the importance of understanding, resilience, and strengthening connections across diverse communities.

Grateful to have been part of this important consultation and to contribute to a space of thoughtful dialogue and shared commitment to cohesion and mutual respect.

SABS teachers Ameed and Ishrat were delighted to take part in two more Edinburgh Interfaith Association (EIFA) Religion and Belief Roadshows this week, held at Leith Walk Primary School and Gylemuir Primary School.

Both events were filled with engaging conversations, thoughtful questions, and valuable opportunities for pupils to learn about different faiths, beliefs, and communities. It was also great to be joined by Police Scotland, whose participation helped promote positive community engagement.

These Roadshows continue to play an important role in building understanding, respect, and stronger community relations among young people.

Once again a big thank you to EIFA for organising these inspiring events and creating opportunities for meaningful learning and dialogue.

🌿 SABS School & Community Annual Outing - Eid Ghadeer Special 2026 🌿

Alhamdulillah, over 200 members of our community, across ages and generations, joined us at our excursion to Blair Drummond Safari Park on Sunday to mark Eid Ghadeer (featuring perhaps the loudest Nara Haidari of the year!)

The park made for a brilliant day out. The animals drew plenty of excitement, and the company was great with families and community members spending time together. Occasions like this sit at the heart of what SABS works to provide; creating space for the community to come together, strengthen relationships and build a cohesion that carries through long after the day itself.

Our gratitude goes to the generous family who sponsored the event. May Allah (SWT) bless them and their families, grant mercy to their Marhumeen, and reward them immensely. We remembered in our prayers those members of our community no longer with us. May Allah (SWT) envelop them in His mercy and grant them eternal peace. Ameen.

A special thank you to all the volunteers and organisers who worked tirelessly to make this outing a success, as well as the team at Blair Drummond Safari Park. Your dedication and hard work are deeply appreciated. The day was such a success because of your efforts.

SABS Co-Chair, Ifty Ali, attended the 98th Annual Service of Commemoration at the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle, on 5 June 2026.

The service provided an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives in past conflicts, and gave cause for reflection on the often-forgotten contributions and sacrifices of Muslim servicemen and women, whose role is an important part of the shared history of our nation.

We recognise the diversity of communities who served together in shared cause, united in their service. And we pray for peace and an end to conflict for all people and nations today.

SABS' Ameed was delighted to be honoured once again to take part in another fantastic Edinburgh Interfaith Association's 'Religion and Belief Roadshow' at South Morningside Primary School.

What a brilliant day of learning, questions, and conversations!

These Roadshows are helping to build stronger communities, deepen interfaith understanding, and promote harmony and respect. Most importantly, they are spreading hope and friendship at a time when both are needed more than ever.

Once again, a massive thank you to EIFA for organising these inspiring events and creating opportunities for young people to learn about different faiths, beliefs, and communities.

On Tuesday, our Vice-Chair, Kashan, was pleased to attend the Building Resilience: Communities, Cohesion and Shared Responsibility conference at the Emirates Arena.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to engage in discussions on how communities and organisations can respond confidently to hostility, hate, and misinformation. The keynote speakers, panel discussions involving Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland, and interactive workshop sessions highlighted the importance of partnership working and shared responsibility across public bodies, third-sector organisations, and local communities.

The workshop discussions were particularly insightful, and it was encouraging to see so many organisations contributing ideas that will help inform future priorities and the Hate Crime Working Group Action Plan.

Thank you to Glasgow City Council and its partners for organising such a timely and impactful event, and special thanks to Shaheen Baber, Hate Crime Policy Officer, for bringing partners together for these important conversations.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

'Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.'
(Qur’an 2:156)

With deep sadness and heartfelt grief, we have received the news of the passing of His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyadh (may Allah sanctify his noble soul), one of the foremost religious authorities of our time.

Throughout his blessed life, he devoted himself to the service of Islam and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). He dedicated his efforts to the teaching and advancement of the Islamic sciences, the nurturing of generations of scholars and students, and the elucidation of the rulings and principles of the sacred Islamic law.

His departure marks a profound loss for the Islamic seminaries, the scholarly community, and the believers worldwide. His distinguished scholarly stature, exemplary piety, and enduring intellectual legacy will continue to inspire future generations and remain a source of guidance for the Muslim Ummah.

We beseech Allah, the Most High, to encompass him in His infinite mercy, elevate his rank among His righteous servants, and resurrect him in the company of Muhammad and his Pure Family (peace and blessings be upon them all).

We also extend our sincere condolences to his family, students, followers, and all those who were blessed to benefit from his knowledge and guidance. May Allah grant them patience, strength, and solace during this difficult time.

There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
