🎲 Casino Night is Back! 🎲

After last year's fantastic success, Currie Balerno Rotary's Casino Night returns on Thursday 9 October at Currie Rugby Club, Balerno.

Enjoy an evening of roulette, blackjack, refreshments, a raffle and silent auction, all while supporting great local causes. The best part? It's all for charity. There are no cash prizes. Instead, your gaming chips are exchanged for raffle tickets, making it a fun social event that helps raise funds for:

✅ Dementia Friendly Pentlands
✅ Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled
✅ Rotary charitable projects

🎟️ Tickets are just £20, including £15 worth of gaming chips.

We're also looking for donations of raffle prizes and silent auction items. Every donation helps us raise even more for local charities.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community donating to the Rotary Tree of Life, £3,500 was donated to the My Names's Doddie Foundation.

We’re looking for donations of yew and other hardwoods to help us craft more of our handmade Snowmen and Christmas trees for sale at Balerno Farmer’s Market.
Funds raised goes directly to charities supporting our local communities.

Are you living with cancer for supporting someone who is?
Cancer Card would like you to join them at James Watt Building, Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, EH11 2DP, on Sunday 23rd August, from 11am to 3.00pm, for a free event full of support, information and advice.
Whether you are living with cancer or caring for someone who is, this event is a great opportunity to meet some brilliant local cancer support services and learn more about the resources available to you. There will also be some short talks and activities throughout the day. Feel free to bring a friend with you.
And of course, there will be tea and coffee!

Back in 2002 we created our first flower display on Lanark Road West, along with a commemorative bench at the top of Curriehill Road, to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
Every year since, we’ve renewed and cared for Currie’s flowers — and here’s a glimpse of this year’s display in full bloom.
A big thank‑you to Riccarton Garden Centre for supplying the plants at a very favourable price.
We’re also grateful to Edinburgh City Council. Their street‑cleaning team happened to be in Currie that morning and kindly offered to remove the old, rotting wooden tubs. It was a huge help, and they did a fantastic job. We’ve written to the Council to express our appreciation.

Wonderful couple of hours spent weeding and maintaining the orchard in George V park today. Currie Balerno Rotary joined Pentlands Eco Network other organisations in maintaining this amazing resource for the community.
Our hard work was sustained by tea, coffee and cakes provided by Tiggy Brown from Community for Food.
Thanks also to Dr Scott Arthur MP for coming along to help and supporting our local community.

🌻 The Sunflower Gathering is coming to Currie!

Pentlands Ukrainian Support Group warmly invites you to a joyful summer community event celebrating Ukrainian culture, music, arts and traditions.

📅 Saturday 14 June 2026
🕐 1pm–4pm
📍 Currie Community Centre
💛 Free entry (donations appreciated)

Organised in partnership with Currie Balerno Rotary, Mission of Innocents, AUGB Edinburgh and High Flyers Basketball Academy, this family‑friendly afternoon will include:

• Live Ukrainian music
• Arts & crafts for children and adults
• Traditional Ukrainian baking & café refreshments
• Fun activities for all ages

Although the event celebrates Ukrainian heritage, everyone in the local community is warmly welcome. Come meet neighbours, enjoy the activities and discover Ukrainian traditions in a friendly, inclusive setting.

The Sunflower Gathering is part of Refugee Festival Scotland, funded by the Small Grant Scheme.

🎤 SUPPORTING BALERNO HIGH SCHOOL — REAL INTERVIEWS, REAL EXPERIENCE

“Senior pupils… were invited to sign up for face‑to‑face interviews with employers to help them prepare for… future employment.”

As part of our growing partnership with Balerno Community High School, two of our Rotary Community Members — Circle Security and Oriam — stepped in to offer mock job interviews for senior pupils.

Colin Muir (Oriam) and Ian Farmer (Circle Security) conducted 20‑minute interviews, complete with feedback and discussion. The pupils described the experience as helpful, useful and positive — exactly what we hoped for.
