Why we're walking for Seaview: a message from our team
We're raising money for a second Safe Space Bed at Seaview, walking a mile every day in September for our (S)miles for Seaview Sponsored Walk. We wanted to share why this matters, straight from someone who sees the impact every day.
Nicola Gilhooley, Assistant Residential Manager at Seaview, shared this with us:
"Having worked within the children and families sector for over 10 years and spending the past 6 years in various roles at Seaview, I have witnessed first-hand the life changing impact our Safe Space Bed has on young people and their families.
For many young people, the Safe Space Bed which we call 'the blue room', provides far more than just somewhere to sleep. It offers comfort, security and a calming environment where they can feel safe, regulate their emotions and begin to settle. For families, it provides reassurance that their loved one is being supported in a safe and therapeutic space where their needs are being fulfilled.
The need for short breaks for families is clear. Our Safe Space bed is occupied every single night and is consistently our most requested resource. Unfortunately, with only one bed available, we are often unable to meet the demand.
Funding an additional Safe Space bed, in particular the 'Hi-Lo', would enable us all at Seaview to support more families. It would expand our capacity, reduce waiting times, allow more flexibility, and ensure that no young person or family misses out on vital support. This bed can make a significant difference to the lives of many."
Every mile and every pound gets us closer to our ยฃ12,000 target. ๐ฃ๐
