More than a century later, Private Thomas Whitaker has finally been laid to rest.
Thomas was just 18 when he was killed in a trench explosion, one month before the end of the First World War.

His remains, alongside five fellow soldiers, were found in Belgium in 2020 and identified by specialist “war detectives”.

This week, they were buried with full military honours at Tyne Cot Cemetery.
For Thomas’s family, it brought long-lost relatives together at his graveside.

Lest we forget 🌺

Some of Private Thomas Whitaker's relatives had never met before burial ceremony in Belgium.

Our team had a fantastic day at the RAF Cosford Air Show, speaking with hundreds of people and sharing more about the incredible work of The Veterans' Foundation.

It was a pleasure to have so many meaningful conversations throughout the day. 👏🇬🇧

A lifetime of service. A special reunion. ✈️

For his 90th birthday, former RAF pilot Tony Davies was surprised with the chance to stand beside a de Havilland Vampire aircraft once again — more than 60 years after flying it during his RAF career.

From National Service to 28 years in the Royal Air Force, and a further 14 years introducing Air Cadets to flying through Air Experience Flights, Tony's story reflects a lifelong commitment to aviation and supporting future generations.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to celebrate those who have served and preserve the stories that connect past and present.

Happy 90th birthday, Tony. Thank you for sharing your remarkable journey. 🎉🇬🇧

On this day in 1815, British forces and their European allies stood together at Waterloo in one of history's most decisive battles.

Facing sustained artillery fire and fierce close-quarters fighting, thousands of soldiers endured immense hardship and sacrifice. With the arrival of Prussian forces, the battle was won, bringing an end to the Napoleonic Wars.

Today, we remember all those who served at Waterloo and honour the sacrifices they made. Their service remains an enduring part of our shared history.🌺
