We believe that as a species we really need to get a wriggle on when it comes to taking action on climate change. And while there are a lot of good things happening, more needs to happen and more quickly. We want to help people take effective action - but we want to do it in a way that is fun, easy, inclusive and rewarding.

We grew our team and launched Clean Miles to champion low-carbon outdoor travel. Backed by 40+ brand partners and nearly 1,000 Carbon Literacy graduates, our community has never been stronger.

When your sport is won or lost by hundredths of a second, you notice when the ice starts getting soft.

We are beyond stoked to welcome double Olympic Skeleton Champion Matt Weston OLY | GBR SKELETON to the POW UK Athlete Alliance.

Matt has spent the last 10 years throwing himself down the world's fastest ice tracks. But lately, he’s watching the freezer door get left open. Pre-season training days are getting scrapped due to heat. Historic natural tracks like St. Moritz are being forced to consider artificial refrigeration. The winters he grew up racing in are disappearing.

Talking to the The Guardian, Matt broke down why he’s choosing action over climate anxiety:

🗣️ “Sometimes the more you think about it, the more depressing it can be - oh God, is this really the situation we’re in? But on the flip side, there are things we can do and a lot of Protect Our Winters’ messages are solution based.”

Instead of getting paralyzed by climate anxiety, Matt is turning his passion into action. He’s using his platform to push for real solutions with us, starting with our Clean Miles campaign to get better, greener transit for the outdoor community.

Everyone give a massive POW UK welcome to our newest ambassador,

A former semi-pro road cyclist turned ultra-trail runner, Tom found his love for the trails while traveling the Andes with his partner, Hannah. But his impact goes way beyond the start line.

Backed by a BSc and MSc in Climate Science from the Tyndall Centre at UEA, Tom is tackling one of the biggest challenges in the outdoor industry: transport. He’s built a career in sustainable travel - moving from local active travel policy to his current work at You. Smart. Thing., a low-carbon travel solution for major events.

Tom embodies the POW spirit - getting after it in the outdoors while putting in the hard work to protect it. We couldn’t be more stoked to have him on board. Welcome to the Alliance, Tom!

Protecting the places we love starts with ending our dependence on the fuels that are putting them at risk.

The POW UK team is on the ground at London Climate Action Week, and today, UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a crucial message:

🗣️ “We cannot double-down on a system based on fossil fuels that is driving both the climate crisis and the energy crisis.”

For those of us who climb, hike, ride, and explore, this is personal. Our mountain environments are on the frontline of climate change. To protect them, we have to tackle the root cause.

But there is hope. Guterres shared a rallying cry for the future: ⚡ “We can finally turn the page on fossil fuels and drive a future powered by renewables and rooted in climate justice.”

We are already seeing what happens when we demand change. 👇

Here in the UK, no new fossil fuel extraction is now government policy after years of campaigning by communities, campaign groups and organisations across the climate movement. POW UK was proud to play our part through campaigns like Send It, alongside many others pushing for change.

Today’s speech is a reminder that the science is clear, the solutions exist, and progress is possible when people speak up.

The outdoor community has a powerful voice. Let’s keep using it to accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels and towards a clean, thriving planet for generations to come. 🌲❄️
