SWA's Head of Public Affairs Jayne Swanson and Ylva Haglund Head of Sustainability & Communications were delighted to attend the launch of the Trunk Road Adaptation Plan at in Glasgow. 🚗🌍

The plan sets out how Scotland’s trunk road network can remain resilient and reliable in the face of climate change. It identifies where and how the network is already being affected, how these impacts will evolve, and sets out 43 actions to safeguard infrastructure, protect communities, and ensure the continued delivery of essential transport services.

These include:

Prioritising maintenance in vulnerable locations

Integrating weather forecasting systems for early warning

Supporting resilience through nature-based solutions such as sustainable drainage

Strengthening bridges and embankments to withstand extreme weather

Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop said:

“The impacts of climate change on Scotland’s transport system are becoming increasingly apparent, with flooding, landslips, scour and storms already placing pressure on the trunk road network all year round. The Trunk Road Adaptation Plan lays out a series of measures to ensure we continue to deliver resilience and reliability for the communities and businesses that depend on the road network.”

Greencity recently developed their own adaptation action plan – featured in the Scottish Wholesale Association’s 'Climate change risks and adaptation in the Scottish food & drink wholesale industry' guide, produced in partnership with Adaptation Scotland – to strengthen their ability to respond to extreme weather while prioritising staff and customer safety.
