Congratulations to Jim Mackinnon, Deputy Head of Curriculum – Construction at UHI Moray, who was awarded the SNIPEF Merit Award.

Jim has devoted more than five decades to the plumbing industry. He has made an outstanding contribution not only through practical trade experience but also through education, mentorship, and the development of future generations entering the profession.

As he couldn’t attend the SNIPEF AGM in Dundee, the award was presented by RTO Neil Foxcroft.

What a fantastic day at the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year (SPAY) competition! 👏

It was inspiring to see such a high standard of skill, professionalism, and dedication from apprentices across the country.

Employers play a vital role in supporting apprentices to take part in events such as the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year (SPAY) Competition.

Scott Murphy, Director & Co-Founder at Installs - Plumbing and Heating, whose apprentice is competing in the Lead category at SPAY 2026, shared:

🎓RTO, Vanessa Docherty, was delighted to attend the UHI Perth Prizegiving Ceremony, celebrating the outstanding achievements of our award-winning apprentices — Douglas MacDonald, Ewan Loudon, Alim Etri and Kieron McColl.

STS is incredibly proud of all our award winners and extends our warmest congratulations to each apprentice. We’d also like to recognise the invaluable support, guidance and training provided by the UHI lecturing team, George Brown and Stuart Oliphant.

RTO Vanessa Doherty attended the Hillcrest FB Trades Apprenticeship Open Night, an engaging and well-attended event with over 70 participants.

The evening provided valuable insight into what a trade apprenticeship involves, highlighting the opportunity to gain practical skills while earning.

Attendees participated in sessions focused on CV development and advice, interview preparation, and engagement with industry trade bodies.

Well done to STS apprentice Connor MacLeod!

A fantastic example of what can be achieved with the right support.

His employer, Sureserve Compliance North Ltd, continues to invest in their apprentices, providing top-tier training, guidance, and instilling a strong professional work ethic — all clearly reflected in Connor’s outstanding work and installation. 👏

Congratulations to plumbing Modern Apprentice Connor MacLeod, who produced the best Installation during his recent second year skills test 👏

Connor received a tool bag, tools and a £50 voucher from the award sponsor MKM's Peterhead branch. Connor's pipe work, attitude, knowledge, organisational skill were deemed to be the best out of fifteen candidates by the Judges. Connor is a credit to his employers Sureserve Compliance North Ltd.
