RTO Julie Rankin recently visited Kilwinning Campus to speak with students about apprenticeship opportunities in the industry. The session covered creating a strong CV, what to expect during the four-year plumbing and heating apprenticeship, and gave students a chance to ask questions and learn more about the career pathway.

It was also great to have Jamie Barrie, Lecturer at Ayrshire College, in attendance, supporting discussions and helping students explore their future opportunities in the sector.

RTO Neil Foxcroft attended the Orkney Careers Fair last week, hosted by Developing the Young Workforce Orkney and Skills Development Scotland. With 987 attendees and 75 businesses and organisations taking part, the event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people exploring their future career options.

Neil enjoyed speaking with attendees about the rewarding opportunities available in the plumbing and heating profession, highlighting the pathway into the industry through apprenticeships. It's encouraging to see so much interest in developing the next generation of skilled professionals.

STS’s Emma Lavery, Stephanie Lowe and Dale Thomson visited Glasgow Clyde College to meet with Iain Boyle, David Gilliland, Alex Reid and Steven Greer.

They had some insightful discussions with the college team covering the challenges facing our industry and the importance of continuing to champion apprenticeships through SNIPEF's Supporting Apprenticeships: Fixing Scotland’s Skills Shortage campaign.

Working in partnership with the college is vital as we strive to support the next generation of skilled professionals. With apprenticeships under increasing pressure, we remain focused on supporting employers wishing to give young people a positive and sustainable future within the industry

🎉 Welcome to our 1A Group plumbing and heating Apprentices at Dundee and Angus College! 🔧🔥

Several of these first-years came from the college’s pre-apprenticeship programme, and it is great to see them continue with their apprenticeship journey as they gain the practical skills and industry knowledge needed for a successful career in the sector.

The class is still growing! 👏 We have another apprentice joining us this week!

It was great to see our Regional Training Officer, Julie Rankin, representing STS at a roundtable consultation hosted by South Lanarkshire College, bringing together key partners and employers who work closely with the college.

Julie spoke about the excellent partnership between STS and the college, highlighting the many activities delivered together, including apprentice reviews, inductions, careers events, the SPAY competition and industry meetings. She also shared her positive experiences working with the plumbing department and its dedicated staff.

Looking ahead, Julie invited employers to take part in future apprenticeship-focused sessions, particularly around the gas portfolio, to help support the next generation of plumbing and heating professionals.

Stephanie, Dale and Elaine from STS recently visited SNIPEF affiliate Borders College and met with John Rafferty, Stuart Black, Alan Reid, Mark Easson, and Greg Steel.

Great conversations were had around the college’s pre-apprenticeship programme and plans to collaborate on an Employability Day, bringing together employers and the next generation of apprentices. Discussions also explored current industry challenges and the continued work supporting SNIPEF’s apprenticeship campaign and manifesto, Supporting Apprenticeships: Fixing Scotland’s Skills Shortage.

We’ve built a strong relationship with the college over the years and are delighted to continue working closely together. The college team are passionate about supporting our industry.

Thanks for having us; it was great to meet with staff and apprentices and to bring SNIPEF President Steve Craig along.

It’s important to us that employers see first-hand the support we offer to apprentices, employers and colleges. These visits help strengthen relationships, share ideas and ensure we continue working together to support the future of the profession.

We were delighted to welcome SNIPEF's 102nd President, Steve Craig to Tullos Training last Thursday as part of his tour of training providers across Scotland. 🔧

As part of his new role, Steve is visiting training providers to meet their teams, learn more about how apprentices are supported and gain an insight into the facilities available throughout the country.

It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our Plumbing Apprenticeship programmes, discuss the current skills landscape and highlight the important work being done to develop the next generation of skilled plumbing and heating workers.
