Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust The Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust is the voice of the community around the Union Canal at Fountainbridge.

If you live, work or visit the area then you're a part of this community. The Union Canal at Fountainbridge is a special place. Redeveloping the land here is a chance to retain valuable wildlife corridors into the city while highlighting the rich cultural history in an attractive area for recreation and leisure. Formed by combining Re-Union Canal Boats (you’ll have seen their big purple boat!) and Fountainbridge Canalside Initiative, the Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust will help to guide the decisions that are made during the redevelopment of the site. Strength and Balance. We are pleased to let you know about our new free group, and our taster event on Tuesday 8th September 2026.
Walking with Strength and Balance
Gentle Walking Group with Strength and Balance Movements
Suitable for those with long term health conditions, older adults or anybody wanting gentle exercise in a friendly environment.
30-40 mins of activity with rest in a beautiful canalside space followed by refreshments and a social time
Meeting and moving in an Indoor canalside space with a short outdoor walk in good weather
Tuesdays 2pm
Free of charge
Tea/coffee/ fruit/ shortbread at the end of the session
Open to all ages of adults

New this year, Bat Crafts and Bat Craft Cruise with Chloe who is a local mum and scientist at Forest Research with a background in woodlands and bats. She enjoys crafting with her kids and sharing her enthusiasm for wildlife.
Bat Crafts at North Merchiston Club Tuesday 8th September 4.30-5.30. This all-age bat themed workshop has an earlier start time for our younger bat enthusiasts. Learn about bats with Chloe and make some bat themed crafts, time for questions and answers. In Room 2 at North Merchiston Club, accessible for buggies. Free of charge. Please book your space.

Bat Craft Cruise Wednesday 16th September at 5.30-6.30pm
1 hour cruise on Lochrin Belle, learn about bats with Chloe and make some bat themed crafts, questions and answers. (It is not dark enough for wild bats). There are only 25 tickets so booking is essential.

We can’t wait to do it all again this Saturday as the Raft Race brings our Edinburgh Canal Festival summer event series to a close! 🎉

12-2pm boat trips by Re-Union Canal Boats and water taster sessions with Driftwood Adventure, then 2-4pm raft race with final happening at 3:45pm ( times can change slightly ) 🌊

Walking to Dalry Park or around the canal basin and then returning to the library who are hosting us for refreshments after the walk. What a fantastic Edinburgh Canal Festival summer it has been! We were delighted to welcome so many people to our Festival - Community Open Day as part of the Edinburgh Canal Festival on Sat 20th June and to our Picnic in the Park on Sat 25th July - thank you to everyone who came along and helped make both events so special 💚

Now we’re getting ready for the grand finale of our summer programme - the Raft Race on Saturday 22 August, 12-4pm 🌊

Join us for an afternoon of excitement, laughter and community spirit, with special guest Andy Chung, canal boat trips, and plenty of fun for all ages. Whether you’re cheering on the rafts or simply enjoying the atmosphere by the water, we’d love to see you there! 💙
