Crisis Scotland

Crisis Scotland Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness.

At Crisis we know that homelessness is not inevitable, and that by working together we can end it. Our Skylight in Edinburgh provides support to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, while we also campaign for the changes needed to help it altogether.

Can one of Scotland’s most iconic goals help to end homelessness? ⚽

We went along to the Bank of Scotland pop-up in Edinburgh today to see if we could crack the code to win one of the iconic Scott McTominay bank notes.

We weren’t successful this time but we’re so proud to be partnering with Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and Scott McTominay, who are raising a phenomenal amount of money for our work to end homelessness by 2040.

Enter the prize draw or auction to get your hands on one of only 50 limited-edition £20 notes! 💵

Up to 30,000 Scotland fans are expected to travel to the USA to support the Scotland men’s football team at the World Cup.

The same number of people are experiencing homelessness in Scotland right now. The number of people experiencing different forms of homelessness is at an all-time high.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

By the next World Cup in 2030, Scotland can be world leaders in ending homelessness. That will only happen if we urgently build more of the right type of homes in the right places, give people better support to prevent homelessness and invest the money necessary to make this happen.

Today, John Swinney announced his ambitions for Scotland.

We welcome the First Minister's pledge to invest in housing and end child poverty through effective and joined-up public services.

Both are important steps towards ending homelessness by 2040.

However, this was a missed opportunity to commit to ending homelessness for good, which is desperately needed as the numbers continue to rise year on year.

Homelessness can and should be ended by 2040. We need strong leadership, collaboration across all parts of Government and Parliament to make sure that homelessness becomes a thing of the past.

Tomorrow, John Swinney will announce his ambitions for Scotland.

We've written to ensure that ending all forms of homelessness for good will boldly feature in these plans.

The Scottish Government's commitment to eradicating child poverty cannot be achieved without ending homelessness.

21/05/2026

In April, the First Minister told us that he can't eradicate child poverty, which is at the heart of his political agenda, without ending homelessness.

We agree - housing stability and whole family support will be central to ending child poverty, addressing the cost-of-living crisis and ending all forms of homelessness by 2040.

We're calling for John Swinney to reaffirm his commitment to end all forms of homelessness for good, to put in place a plan to achieve this by 2040, and through stronger cross-portfolio action.

With the right leadership, investment and collaboration across parliament, Scotland can move significantly closer to ensuring everyone in Scotland has a safe and affordable home.

We warmly welcome the appointment of Shirley-Anne Somerville to the role of Social Justice and Housing Secretary at such an important time for Scotland.

We look forward to working closely and constructively with her and the Scottish Government in the years ahead to help turn the shared ambition of ending homelessness by 2040 into a reality.

If Scotland is serious about ending poverty, it must also be serious about ending homelessness. The two are inseparable, and we are committed to working with government and beyond to help deliver a future where everyone has a safe, secure home

Now that John Swinney has been confirmed as Scotland’s First Minister, here’s what he can do to get us on track to ending homelessness by 2040.

We've put together some moving-in essentials for his first 100 days:

1. Reaffirm his commitment to ending all forms of homelessness for good and mandate a plan to achieve this by 2040

2. Share responsibility for ending homelessness between Cabinet Secretaries or through a Cabinet sub-committee

3. Commit to fully funding the prevention duties in the Housing Act (2025) and bring forth a detailed implementation plan for national rollout

These steps will help set the next Scottish Government on the path to ending homelessness by 2040.

We wholeheartedly support Shelter Scotland's call to retain a Cabinet Secretary for Housing in the next Scottish Government. Ending homelessness by 2040 will require sustained political leadership and long-term commitment across Government.

Shelter Scotland has urged the incoming Scottish Government to retain the cabinet secretary for housing post, warning that momentum on tackling the national housing emergency will stall if the role is downgraded.
