Have your say on changing standards. Weโ€™d love to hear what you think.

Our Standards are evolving so producers can focus on the most urgent social and environmental issues that matter to them.

Using a risk-based approach, this proposal moves away from our existing โ€˜one-size-fits-allโ€™ list of criteria, and:

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ addresses the growing risks faced by farmers in a more agile way
๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ makes it more relevant to producersโ€™ realities
๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ diverts resources to the most critical activities.

This means farmers will not be burdened with meeting a growing list of criteria not necessarily relevant to them.

Public consultation opens soon, June - August 2026.

Someone travelling recently on a Swedish train spied this Fairtrade mark on the flask of organic tea at the end of the carriage. Well done to the Swedish train service for making it both free and Fairtrade. Maybe more organisations in the UK could follow this example?

Democracy is about voice and choice. About who gets heard, who gets represented, and whose interests shape the systems we live in. Local decisions influence food access, public services, community support and the standards we expect from business here and globally.

Fairtrade stands for fairness, democracy and respect for people and planet. Those are the same values that underpin the call for a global trading system that works for everyone, not just a powerful few. Who gets a voice in our systems matters - from local councils to global supply chains.

Across towns, cities, schools, universities and faith groups, Fairtrade communities put these values into action every day - organising locally, standing in solidarity, and pushing for change that reaches far beyond their own neighbourhoods.

Whoever ends up as your elected representatives can help make a difference, as can we as consumers.

And on Sir David Attenboroughโ€™s 100th birthday, he would also remind us how connected we are on this beautiful planet where we all have our parts to play in making it a fairer world ๐ŸŒŽ
