Roslin Little Free Library

I've changed some of the books in the White Box but I'm not sure if it will get outside today (Sunday). I had a delivery of 3 boxes of books yesterday and they are just by the front door and I'm not sure I can maneuver the White Box past them just now. It's actually sitting in my living room at the moment as the new boxes are where it usually lives when not outside.

The donation was another rescued from a local Charity Shop that was throwing them away. It's great that they get another chance but sad that they would have just gone in the bin otherwise, especially as 3 of them had my labels inside.

Anyway, that's me overloaded again for the time being, hopefully it won't take me too long to go through them especially if the weather gods decide I shouldn't be gardening!

I do check the books in the little house late afternoon each day (weather permitting) and top up/replace any taken, so there should always be a full selection to browse.

If, when you are round and about, you visit Auchendinny, I have a bookshelf in The Glencorse Centre and there is a "little free library" in the Phone Box at the bottom of The Brae (which has been repainted and revamped by Penicuik's Men's Shed), the phone box in Penicuik, outside The Storehouse, has been painted and kitted out and is now stocking books. There's also a bookcase in Pentland Plants Cafe but that isn't free - they request a donation to their chosen charity.

If you plan to leave books at any of these locations, please don't overload them - maybe check first if there is room.

There's a question about whether you use my Little Free Library...looking forward to getting some stats back, will be interesting.

Final countdown to completion of our Community Survey is 5th Oct. Excellent response to date of 172 completions. Can you help us reach our target of 200 by sparing 10 minutes over the weekend.

I've had a busy week and not much to report. The shelves and little house have some new books added and the number of bags/boxes of books hasn't changed. As it's a dull day, maybe I'll get one or two sorted, catalogued and stored..... or maybe I'll read a book ;-)

The weeks seem to be flying by at the moment. I've had more offers of donations that I've had to ask to hold on while I get sorted, but I should be able to accept more books soon.

We had a nice book group meeting last week, one new person and six in total. Just right for a good chat leaving nobody out. The next one will be Sunday 11th October, from 3pm at The Two Pines Cafe in The Glencorse Centre. Please let me know if you are thinking of coming along so I can book the right number of tables.

Busy week. So many folk offering donations I had to limit how many I said yes to. So 2 boxes and 2 bags of books taken in this week and a couple of folk on hold until I've got some of the backlog sorted. That does mean that I've got lots of choice now and I've put new books in the Little House, the White Box and at the Glencorse Centre.

One thing amused me. One set of donations is the surplus from a charity shop and contained....two of my books from the Glencorse Centre, they found their way back to me!

That just leaves a reminder about the Glencorse Book Group. Our next meetup is today, Sunday 13th September, from 3pm at The Two Pines Cafe in The Glencorse Centre. Hope to see some of you there.

Starting to catch up a little. Updated the shelves at the Glencorse Centre and the Little House, I even managed to go through a bag of books. I only managed a quick check and tidy at Penicuik CC last week, so heading there later today with some new (to them) books.

Well, that's all my festival shenanigans over for another year. I saw some great Fringe shows, fabulous ballet at the Festival and, of course, lots of authors at the Book Festival: some new to me, some old favourites. Now, as my friend Helen would say, it's back to old clothes and porridge.

I had a lovely surprise this week when a colleague from over 10 years ago turned up on my doorstep for some children's books. Took a moment or two to place her, but we had a lovely chat. Remember, if you want to see the contents of the White Box and it isn't outside (and let's face it, the weather isn't always helpful) just knock on the door. The box is just inside the door and I'm always happy to let folk have a look through.

I did manage to update the Little House, book shelves at The Glencorse Centre, and the White Box and take in some donations. Generally kept everything ticking over.

Hopefully, from here, everything settles back into a more manageable pattern.

Ah, whenever I'm feeling a bit down, something always comes along to cheer me up.
Just had a knock on the door to look at the White Box of Childrens/YA books. Someone I worked with, briefly, around 14 years ago! Had her son with her wanting a set of books that were there. Delighted to be able to find a new home for the series and even nicer to catch up with someone I've not seen for ages.
