Have you ever wondered why the βLβ comes first in LGBTQIA+?
Today is Le***an Visibility Day, so let's take a moment to recognise, celebrate, and uplift le****ns in all their diversity by talking about the importance of the L.
During the AIDS crisis, when fear and stigma led many to turn away, it was le****ns who stepped forward.
They organised care, raised funds, donated blood, and supported gay men who were being abandoned by families, institutions, and governments. They showed up with compassion, courage, and action when it mattered most. This is why L is the first letter of the acronym - as recognition for their incredible efforts .
The truth is that le****ns have always been at the heart of q***r liberation movements, yet are often overlooked, stereotyped, or spoken over. Visibility is not just about being seen. It is about being recognised fully, respected properly, and included meaningfully.
So today, we celebrate:
β’ Le***an joy and love
β’ Le***an history and activism
β’ Le***an voices, past and present
And we reaffirm something simple:
Le***ans deserve respect. Not as an afterthought, not conditionally, but as a fundamental part of our community π
