That's a wrap on The Scottish Geology Festival 2026! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who attended, hosted or contributed to the events, including The Deep Time Gala 🕰, panel talks, online lectures 💻, museum exhibitions, geology-themed creative workshops 🎨 and guided outdoor excursions ⛰ (and many more!). We hope you learned about Scotland's amazing geological story and James Hutton's enduring legacy.

It is the final week of the Scottish Geology Festival but no less packed with events. We cover it all, from literature, music, fashion and more. Join us at Ink on Mesh Studio for a Family Open Day at The Heart & The History of Education celebrating 300 years of modern geology and Edinburgh’s James Hutton - the father of modern geology.

Annette and myself will be running screen printing workshops on paper & textiles throughout the day . Drop in and make a poster to take home and add your print to our community textile banner.
There will be food and talks, crafts and tours run by the history of education, so lots going on for all the family.
Saturday 20th June from 10am - 3.30pm
Pop it on your calendar and drop in on the day .

There’s a whole host of exhibitions occurring during and outwith the Scottish Geology Festival this year. From James Hutton-focused exhibitions marking the famous geologist’s 300th birthday, to contemporary art inspired by deep time, landscapes, and Earth processes, there’s plenty to explore across the country this year.

Whether you’re interested in Geology, art, natural history, or Scotland’s heritage, these exhibitions bring Earth’s stories and deep past to life in fascinating and creative ways. With exhibitions taking place over Scotland the programme offers something for everyone, from dedicated Geology enthusiasts to curious visitors discovering Scotland’s geological wonder for the first time.

Come along for a unique evening of music, song, video and poetry inspired by James Hutton’s insights regarding deep time and Earth’s processes with performances from leading Scottish performers. 🎼

Karine Polwart and Dave Milligan have featured the song ‘Siccar Point’ on their most recent album and will close the concert with a headline set inspired by the Earth. Olivia Rafferty will sing songs from her album ‘Typical Forever’ which is entirely about geology. East Lothian ambient composer Michael Begg’s work includes Deep Time and accompanies atmospheric video from Glenda Rome which will also be shown as excerpts from the film ‘Expressing the Earth’. There will be poetry featuring Siccar Point and Arthur’s Seat by Patrick Corbett, Jack Cooper, Colin Will and Alexander McCall Smith.
