Notice of General Meeting Tuesday 24th June 2025

Following discussions at our AGM, we will hold a General Meeting at 5pm on Tuesday 24th June 2025. This will be held in person, the venue to be confirmed soon.

At this meeting the Management Group will present a proposal for dissolution of the Corstorphine Business Community.

We appreciate that this may come as a surprise to many, especially as we have 658 Facebook followers and an established profile in our local community as well as across the city. However, whilst relationships have been built, member businesses have benefitted and much good work has been done in past years, the reality is that the numbers of paid-up and active members has declined over the last year to the point where we feel that the group is no longer viable.

The General Meeting will also consider any member proposals for continuance. However, unless there is a rapid growth in numbers and member engagement in activities, including willingness to take office-bearer roles, we feel we must now recommend dissolution of the group.

Some current management team members are willing continue though a couple of key roles need filled as people are standing down. But having a management team in itself is not enough for community viability.

If you are a member, please come along to the meeting on 24th so we can we can discuss and decide the future together.

If you are a business owner/operator in this area but not currently a member, and you wish to talk to us about this development, please email us at our Corstorphine Business address. Thank you.

We regret having to break this sad news. We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in and contribution to our business community.

It’s just over a week until our AGM at 8pm on the evening of 20th May (online). We need to have sufficient members present in order to make decisions - and we have a big decision to make about where we go from here.

We’d really love to see you there as we contemplate our future as a local business community. Although voting is restricted to members, we would very much welcome attendance of any potential members, i.e. Corstorphine-based business, as we discuss the community and its activities.

We’ve done some great work together over the last 4-plus years, including contributing well to our local community over the period of the pandemic and through our membership of the Corstorphine Community Council, but without sufficient active members we can’t continue.

If you are current not a member, will you take the step to join the community? It’s only £30 per year. Application form available via our website https://corstorphinebusiness.wordpress.com/ ('Join Us/Apply for Membership'). We are very keen to represent a wide range of business types across our area and to continue to engage with the City of Edinburgh Council’s business support functions.

And, if you are interested in taking a leading role through membership of the management group, please get in touch before the meeting. Email us at: [email protected].

More AGM information and a short survey are available via the QR code.
