What an incredible day for the 2000 (Eckington) Squadron ✈️

We are extremely proud to announce that 2000 Sqn were crowned:

🥇 OVERALL ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS

🥇 Junior Boys Overall Winners

🥇 Senior Girls Overall Winners

An outstanding achievement and a true reflection of the hard work, determination, teamwork and squadron spirit shown by every cadet who took part today.

From track events to field events, every cadet gave 100% effort and represented the squadron with pride throughout the competition.

A huge congratulations to all competitors, medal winners and staff who helped transport the cadets to and from the event as well as assist with roles during the day.

Congratulations to Flight Sergeant Mee, who has come leaps and bounds over the last two years. Your hard work, commitment, and determination have truly paid off, and this promotion is thoroughly deserved.

We are incredibly proud of your achievements and grateful for the effort and enthusiasm you bring to everything you do. This is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact you will continue to have on squadron. 2000 has a new Flight Sergeant! A huge congratulations to FS Dalton on this outstanding and well-deserved achievement. This promotion reflects the remarkable hard work, dedication, and commitment that has been consistently demonstrated over a long period of time.

We look forward to seeing FS Dalton continue to grow in this new role, supporting the NCO team, mentoring junior cadets, and contributing to the continued success and strength of 2000 Squadron.

THE PINNACLE OF HIS CADET CAREER

A huge congratulations goes to Cadet Warrant Officer Basford who has recently gained the highest rank a cadet can achieve.

After first joining 2000 Squadron in 2021, CWO Basford has shown continuous commitment, dedication, and leadership throughout his cadet career. Rising through the ranks, he achieved Corporal in 2023, Sergeant in 2024, to the rank of Flight Sergeant in 2025 and for 2026, CWO. His steady progression is a testament not only to his personal determination but also to the respect and recognition he has earned from both staff and fellow cadets.

CWO Basford is a credit to 2000 (Eckington) Squadron and we cannot wait to see him flourish in his new rank.
A huge congratulations to you, it is well deserved.

RAF Career Discussion

Wow, wow, wow - what an incredible visit! The cadets had the fantastic opportunity to attend a presentation delivered by one of our former cadets, Jack Platts. Jack was part of our squadron before going on to join the Royal Air Force, and it was inspiring to welcome him back and hear about his impressive career journey.

He works with 42 Squadron, contributing to vital operations that help the RAF deploy, operate, and sustain personnel in field environments. His insight into life in the RAF, the realities of operational deployments, and the importance of teamwork and resilience was both engaging and motivating for our cadets.

Our January Intake Night will be taking place on the 12th of January, and we’d love to welcome new faces to the squadron!

If you’re interested in joining the Air Cadets, you must be 13 years old, or 12 years old if you are already in Year 8 at school. No previous experience is needed at all — just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

At 2000 (Eckington) Squadron, we offer a wide range of fun, challenging, and rewarding activities. These include adventure training, leadership development, flying and aviation-related experiences, fieldcraft, sports, and much more. Whether you’re completely new or already have some experience, there’s something for everyone.

As an Air Cadet, you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in training courses and gain nationally recognised qualifications. These skills are valuable for all career paths, not just those linked to the RAF, helping to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership along the way.
