We have a new display in the Library for the whole of October. For anyone to see during library opening hours.
ECKINGTON SHOW photographs from the 1970's to 1993!
Lots of people you say know or recognise. Do you remember when Lady Godiva road through the streets? Do you remember the Camels, were you one of the riders?
Did you bring your dog, or your horse, rabbit or guinea pig? Did you visit the craft fair, ride on the big wheel, watch the Punch and Judy show. What about the High Wire Act, the Cumberland Giants, the mini motorbikes and the Truck towing when some of you fell over!!
You may be on the photos. Do come and bring the grown ups and the children and show them the great time we had every September.
Displays, photo albums and if all goes well a video or two.
Please share on your contacts, let folks know, it's free too.

The next two weeks are Heritage Open Days.
A new display representing "Every day Lives"
Is now set up in Eckington Library.
This can be viewed during normal library opening times.
There are several themes relating to every day lives.
Our recent photos of Eckington, Mosborough, Marsh Lane Public houses was a great success, covering past and present pubs.
The latest display covers every day lives relating to Eckington from the mid 1700's to the mining and nail making era, the Eckington people who entered the Workhouse in the 1800's and the reasons why. Including information on how they were cared for, their accommodation and the way their days were organised.
We have a wide range of books on Eckington with photographs arranged by streets, in the format -- Bottom End tut Top End as we locals say. Display cabinets and lots more.
The library staff are friendly and helpful so please call in and spend time looking at the displays. You can also check up on the Essence of Eckington Mural in the garden.

Please note that next Friday, 14th August we will host our annual Summer Fair. During this day there will be stalls outside, including food vans. To provide a safe space for the children and families the Market Street and Southgate will be CLOSED between 7am - 5pm. We will try to open as soon as it will be safe, so it could be a bit earlier than 5pm.

The exact closure is between the Civic Centre and junction by Inn The Electra. Drivers can still use Gosber Street as an alternative solution.

Thank you for your understanding and we hope that the day will be fun for the whole community!

The Essence of Eckington Mural will be unveiled on Friday 15th May in the garden of Eckington Library on Market Street Eckington. 4pm to 6pm. Fancy Nibbles and drinks will be served thanks to Aster of Live and Local who along with Angie Hardwick the Ceramic Artist organised the project.
Since October 2024 many local people, young and old, have attended different locations to work with clay to create this Mural.
Eckington School helped by allowing the use of their Kiln and pupils there made two smaller murals. One is at the school and another has also been installed at the library.
The Heritage Centre is now based in the library and would welcome visitors to call in during library opening times to look at our displays and the information on the history of Eckington and the wider Parish.
We look forward to meeting as many of the people young and old who helped produce this fantastic work of art on Friday. We are so very grateful to Derbys County Council for allowing us to move into the Library to preserve the Heritage of the area.
NEDDC helped us for 6 years with accommodation on Southgate and the Eckington Parish Council have helped us with some storage facilities.
Since 2013 Eckington Business Centres have been staunch supporters of our efforts to promote Eckington and continue to ensure that the Heritage and the communities of the area are suported and celebrated.
