Competition in the Motor Cycle category was very fierce with a great increase in entrants. It was pleasing to see more old British built models still popping merrily away, but at the end of the day the award for best bike went to Ian Parkin from Nether Edge, Sheffield with his 1948 distinctive Danish offering a Nimbus 750 cc OHC engined Model C. This strange bike has pressed steel frame rather than the usually tubular construction.

Ian tells Keith these machines were used by the Danish postal service and the army for many years. Remarkably it is believed that 40% of the 19,000 made over 25 years are still on the road. It was good to see more 1960’s British engineered bikes this year I couldn’t help but award this Danish offering top marks.

It was a privilege to be asked to judge at this show and a pleasure to talk to the enthusiasts in both categories

Competition was fierce this year with many worthy entries but with only one winner in each category the task was enormous. Selecting the winner was the task given to Rotary Member Keith Wood.

In the Car category the winner was John Wigfield from Chesterfield with a superbly restored and turned out 1954 Sunbeam Alpine Mark 1 Convertible. This car with it’s 4 cylinder, 2267cc OHV engine was immaculately turned out.

John told Keith the car has had numerous owners and had been partially restored when he bought it in 2015 but not to John’s standard so he stripped it back completely and has a complete photographic record of all the stages of refurbishment. The result of this ten year restoration project was a joy to behold.

There are only about 200 of these vehicles left worldwide, 40 still in the UK where they were originally built.

The forecast for tomorrow for the Car and Bike Show is still showing temperatures up to 32 degrees by mid afternoon and sunshine all day. So please come prepared: Bring a hat and wear suitable clothing. Plenty of sunscreen and bring your water bottle (you can fill it from taps in the bathrooms). There are plenty of shady areas at Renishaw so, if you get too hot take a break under a tree. And don't tire yourself by parking offsite and walking all the way up the drive - use the onsite car park.
See you tomorrow!

INFORMATION FOR VISITORS TO THE SHOW ON TUESDAY.
When you arrive at the show on Tuesday please proceed up the drive to the entrance paypoints.
Pedestrians must stay to the right of the barrier tape, away from moving vehicles. There is plenty of public parking so it will be easier, and probably cheaper, to park there rather than to park on the road and walk in.
Volunteers at the entrance will accept payment from car drivers and pedestrians by cash or card. If you wish to exhibit your car, please make that clear when paying so that you are given the correct ticket. You will be directed to the correct area at the top of the drive.
Motorbikes should proceed to their parking area in front of the house - payment will be accepted there.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
