Chapelwheel Dam and Surrounding Area.

Chapel Wheel was sited to the east of Eckington, adjacent to the Chesterfield Canal. It is referred to, but not shown, on a map of 1814 which shows a short stretch of the canal, with a weir apparently taking water off to Chapel Wheel.
Chapelwheel Dam is thought to have been created as a feeder for local collieries. Today, it is a picturesque private fishing pond.

The Old Setcup Tramway, Eckington.
The route of a tramway which ran from collieries in Eckington to the Chesterfield Canal. It includes a scheduled stretch of embankment running across the former Renishaw Park Golf Course [SMR 4904]. The tramway is not listed by Baxter in "Stone Blocks & Iron Rails" 1966 but is shown on an OS map, 1840, between the Eckington Colliery (SK 425782) and the Chesterfield Canal (SK 442796), which opened in 1776. The tramway is visible as a slightly sunken track beyond the Midland Railway to the canal.
The origins of the tramway are unknown at present. It is marked on Sanderson's map of 1835 as a 'railway' running from the Chesterfield Canal to a site shown as 'Colliery' at approximately SK 425782 [SMR 4962]. A part of the route between the colliery and Setcup Lane ran through a tunnel. The arched brickwork were flood tunnels to allow water to pass through when the land flooded.
The tunnel is also shown on an OS map of 1840.
By 1855 the route had been extended in two directions, firstly down a lane leading south from Setcup Lane to a coal pit at c. SK427783 (SMR 4963) and secondly westwards across Eckington Marsh towards Bole Hill and Lightwood, where there were coke ovens (SMR 4964) and a colliery on Bramley Moor.

A lovely wander around Renishaw Hall and Gardens and Lakes yesterday and a feel of Autumn in the air.πŸ‚πŸI managed to capture a fleeting glance of a stoat emerging from the undergrowth before it made its escape, which was very nice to see, and a rare sight for me around the gardens woodland.πŸ₯°A beautiful kestrel was scoping the area in the warm sunshine, and the bees are still in abundance.πŸ¦…πŸThe leaves are changing and it`s starting to look very colourful.πŸ₯°πŸπŸ‚
