Evening Shedemites,

A skeleton crew but a good job and serious progress at the shed today. Outside jobs too meaning the team can top up their vitamin D.

Here is the science: When UVB rays hit your skin, they convert cholesterol into the active form of the vitamin D, which regulates calcium and supports bone and immune health.

Tim and Steve B cracked on with painting the outside of the shed in a fetching shade of white.

Chairman John got to take on one of our more unusual requests "Can you source or build a set of stocks for us?" of course we were able to rise to the challenge and the day was spent strengthening and painting the stocks ready for action at the St Mary the Virgin Eccleston - Chorley Summer Fayre ... Note how he has cunningly installed lower level stocks in order that nippers can be soaked with wet sponges too ... we believe in equality at the shed

We will be looking for volunteers when this item is "road tested" .... Please feel free to take a ticket and join the queue.

Phil T made the tea for everyone except chairman John who was attending to the shuttering on the base for the steam pump down at Verdes Restaurant

The more eagle eyed amongst you will note that the refurbished object is a "Pillory" rather than "Stocks" but it is exactly what the customer wanted ... The difference between Stocks and Pillories was noted by John Bourn Davenport who remains the shed font of all knowledge in all matters regarding medieval torture and punishment.

As usual thanks for allowing us on your feeds ... Please feel free to like, comment and share as we carry on with our shedding

Good day to you Shedderite’s out there

Hope your coping with this humid weather

As customary a couple of than you’s to start with …

Firstly to Wendy from Mawdesley WI for some boxes of domino’s (hopefully this will keep the lads out of trouble)

Secondly to Eccleston Crafty Ladies for their thank you card … It was our absolute pleasure to replace the planters and help improve the village and it’s lovely to be noticed and appreciated.

Quite a quiet week actually after last week’s exploits but it’s nice to take stock and make plans, Phil T and Steve B loaded up with rubbish and went to the tip, on the way back they swung by C&W Berry Ltd to pick up materials and supplies for painting the outside of the shed … work starts on this tomorrow … Expect childish fun and games

Absolutely snowed under with cakes this week … we managed to feed the troops and have some left over for tomorrow … Thanks to Phil (Lemon Sponge) Bob (Chocolate cake) ond Eric (Peanut brittle)

Eric is working on the electric bicycle we have been gifted … all seems to be working as it made it’s maiden voyage around the car park

Sterling work out the back of the shed withSteve B and Phil S getting their power tool fix by rotovating the plot … Steve also found time to plant some shrubs in our Feng Shui garden (a work in progress at this point)

Andy B continued tinkering on the steam pump … much engineering talk around various obscure screw threads and pitches … it’s a love/hate subject, some were animated and passionate whilst others eyes just glazed over

Nice to see Steve W and Chester (the official shed dog) swing by … Note to quartermaster: Please ensure we stock up on dog treats and biscuits.

Anthony and John H sorted out and repositioned our new filing cabinets (full of shed secrets)

The usual discussion around the round table varied from the special forces, through paining and decorating to life saving techniques.

Apologies if you are not named in the above but your efforts are appreciated.

Finally as always, thank you to our friends out there in facebookland … we really appreciate that you allow us to clutter up your feeds with our own particular mix of humour, humility and nonsense … Please feel free to Like, Comment and Share to spread the shedding word

Morning Shedfans,

Hope this finds you well … we had a very exciting and busy day at the shed yesterday but more of that later …

Alan Richardson is going great guns on the restoration of the plaque which has now been cleaned up … big thanks to Nuts Engineering Supplies in Chorley who donated the Brass fixings

Busy busy day … no time for a headcount but we were pleased to welcome at least one new member

Sustenance was provided by Bob in the form of a chocolate cake and some muffins and Phil the T performed sterling work as brewmeister general

After a final briefing from Health & Safety the lads donned their hi -vis jackets and operation “Planter” swung into action, however the heavens decided to open for the 10:15 Thunderstorm meaning we had a somewhat delayed start

Undeterred the lads loaded up the wheelbarrows with tools and headed out into the great unknown (The Pond on the Green)

Andy B’s van (henceforth known as the Shedmobile) was loaded up with the new planters and delivered to the site

On arrival the team took about emptying and dismantling the existing planters (in truth they were sold they were falling apart as quickly as we were dismantling them)

The bases were cleaned and shiny new planters in a very fetching shade of green with a nice shiny plaque were installed … once in place a layer of rubble and stones was placed in the base to aid drainage before the existing soil was mixed with nutrients and supplements to make it fit for purpose and reused

Big shout out at this point to Alan Richardson for his help today, he has a tool for everything, I’m sure the inside of his van must be like the Tardis

This has been a milestone project for the shed, there are not many members who have not been involved in the design, development, manufacture and painting of the planters in one way or another

The big shoutouts of thanks at this point

Joiner Ian Alker who has been the driving force behind this project, so many of us have learnt much from working with Ian (and our vocabulary has improved too)

it's great to have been working in partnership with Eccleston Parish Council who supplied the funding and ideation for the project

Lastly to all our shed mates who have been involved not just today’s herculean and logistical effort but throughout … you can all be incredibly proud of yourselves

Lastly a call to muster … if you are a gentleman of a certain age and disposition who would like to be involved in community projects like this then you will be made more than welcome at our regular Tuesday morning session held at the Eccleston Village Hub at 10:00AM … no special skills or experience are required or expected … just a willingness to be part of a team and have a laugh … All this for the princely sum of one British pound … no wonder this is the hot ticket in town
