Ebbw Vale Institute Ebbw Vale Institute (EVI) is a building full of stories and culture.

EVI Community & Cultural Centre: Community Pantry, Repair Cafe, Warm Hub, Wellbeing, Volunteering, Conference Facilities, Cafe & Catering, Support Services, Free WIFI, Community & Cultural Events Founded in 1849 to promote cultural exchange in the neighbourhood, it is now a vibrant community and cultural centre for Blaenau Gwent and surrounding areas, operated by charity and social enterprise ProMo-Cymru. Our facilities include training and meeting spaces, professional recording studio, café, bar and live performance space.

🪡 Free craft workshop at EVI with The Community Shawl Project! 🧶 Friday 23rd October, 10am to 2pm.

Be a part of the fantastic White Ribbon Community Banner project and join this hands-on creative workshop. Create a textile square which will form part of a banner exhibited at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport, as part of their 16 day exhibition to mark White Ribbon Day (part of a global campaign to end violence against women and girls) 🧵 🤍🎗️

All materials provided, but feel free to bring your own fabrics and sewing kit! Design your square with words, images, or patterns - come with an idea or let us help you map it out on the day.

Offered as a safe and welcoming space for women, the workshop is free, with an optional donation to the White Ribbon campaign on the day.

🔨 Don't miss EVI Repair Café this Monday, October 19th, from 2 - 4pm! Our brilliant volunteers are ready to lend their repair skills for FREE - plus, enjoy a complimentary cuppa while you wait ☕
Here’s what you can get fixed:

🔌 Household electricals
🚲 Bikes
🧸 Toys
🪏 Gardening tools, woodwork, tool sharpening... and more!

Over the last 3 years, our volunteers have repaired over 422 items, saving 860kg of waste from landfill, avoiding more than 18,000kg of CO2 emissions, and saving the community over £30,000! 🌍 💰

🌬️ FREE Transformative Breath to Health Workshop at Ebbw Vale Institute 💚

What if something as simple as your breath could become one of your most powerful tools for managing stress and supporting your wellbeing?

Ebbw Vale Institute is delighted to be hosting Unity in Health Cymru CIC for a special two-day Transformative Breath to Health Workshop on Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd October 2026.
And thanks to funding through the Further Faster Fund, administered by GAVO, this normally £275 national-rate workshop is being offered completely FREE. 🎉

🌿 The two-day experience introduces SKY breathing (Sudarshan Kriya Yoga) — a powerful, rhythmic breathing practice — alongside meditation, mindfulness and other wellbeing practices.

You’ll explore ways to:
🌿 Ease stress & overwhelm
💚 Build energy & resilience
🧘 Find greater calm and relaxation
🌬️ Use your breath as a practical wellbeing tool
✨ Develop skills to support your mental and emotional wellbeing

💚 Special invitation to unpaid carers
While the workshop is open to everyone, we have a particular invitation for unpaid carers.
Caring for someone else can leave very little time to care for yourself. This is an opportunity to step away for two days, learn practical tools for your own wellbeing and simply breathe, reset and restore.

Join us for a free Creative Electronics workshop at EVI, delivered by our friends at Rewise. In this exciting hands-on workshop, you will use a kit to build, wire, and programme an electronic device, learning creativity and coding whilst having fun!

To join, you need to be aged 16+, and not in employment, education or training.

📅 Tuesday, 3rd November | 10am - 3pm
Whilst the workshop runs from 10am – 3pm, the day will be flexible allowing you to leave if needed.

🧘 Practical mindfulness for carers this Wednesday 14th with our Carer Wellbeing Pathways group! ☁️

💙 Dr Andrew is back on Wednesday 14th October for a Practical Mindfulness for Carers wellbeing workshop from 12pm - 1pm. Afterwards, there’s a free light lunch, hot drinks, and informal chat, 1:1 Carer Info & Mentoring sessions.

🩵 Caring for a loved one or managing a long-term health condition can leave very little time for yourself. Carer Wellbeing Pathways is a free, flexible weekly group created to help you recharge and connect with people who understand - open to carers of all kinds. This group is also open to people who have cared in the past but circumstances have changed.

🌻 This group runs alongside the Sunflower Café, our dementia-friendly group, where people are able to be left in a supportive environment.

Are you aged 16+ and not in education, employment or training? Come and join us for two upcoming exciting workshops, delivered by Rewise Learning as part of Creative Horizons Cymru.

⚡ Creative Electronics | Tuesday, 3rd November 10am - 3pm

In this exciting hands-on workshop, you will use a kit to build, wire, and programme an electronic device, learning creativity and coding whilst having fun.

📰 Gwent Archives are visiting from 11am - 1pm. Take a trip down memory lane to old Ebbw Vale with photos and other documents of history.

🌻 The Sunflower Café is a dementia-friendly warm and welcoming space for caregivers of all kinds, those they care for, and anyone looking for a bit of company. There’s refreshments, games, puzzles, and good company, running 11am - 1pm.

☯️ In Carer Wellbeing Pathways, explore the Chinese practice of Qigong from 12pm - 1pm. Reduce stress levels, improve posture and balance, increase flexibility and restore the natural harmony of your body, mind and spirit. Afterward, there is a free light lunch, hot drinks, informal chat, and 1:1 carer info & mentoring sessions.
