Project wrapped up and ready for the ecologists to begin trapping and translocation! Here is a look at how we got this site prepped, protected, and fully compliant: Smart Fencing Alignment. We marked out and installed both the boundary fencing and Tree Protection Fencing (TPF). To keep things clean....

Easter Sunday didn’t go quite as planned for Chris, who headed out to Shipley to deal with a tree that had fallen across the road.

He got everything cleared safely so residents and emergency vehicles could get through again.

Huge thanks to him for stepping up when the community needed it, even on a bank holiday morning.

We’ve been talking a lot recently about practical, on‑the‑ground conservation…

With so many projects kicking off next month, it’s worth revisiting one of the most important structures we build.
As more councils look at nature‑based solutions, this explainer from Christopher is still one of the clearest breakdowns of why hibernacula matter.
Nine months on, the demand for well‑designed overwintering features has only increased and the principles in this video underpin much of the work we’re delivering today.

We don't always get the opportunity to work alongside our sister company Pioneer Environment Ltd, but it's always a pleasure to collaborate on a project with them. Today saw us working together to translocate a tree limb with a potential bat roosting feature. It was inspiring to see PEG in action and thanks to them we were able to determine that the feature contained roosting bats.

If you are unsure whether trees or buildings on your site earmarked for removal contain roosting bats Pioneer Environment Ltd. can perform efficient and thorough checks to give you peace of mind.

We’re getting close to nesting season (starting in March), which means birds will soon be settling into scrub, hedges and vegetation. Once that happens, site clearance can be delayed and extra ecological checks may be needed to make sure wildlife is protected.

DON'T DELAY!

If you’ve got any scrub, bramble, rough grassland or general vegetation that needs clearing, it’s best to get it sorted now while the window is still open.

At Pioneer Habitats, we carry out sensitive, wildlife‑aware vegetation clearance for developers, landowners and community projects across the region. We’re happy to take a look at any site and help you stay on track before nesting season begins.

Feel free to message the page or get in touch if you’d like to book something in.

Out on a site visit yesterday checking out a pond that needs to be filled in so the client can extend their stockyard. Before anything happens, we’ve got to make sure the pond is safely drained and any fish are netted and moved on.

We brought along a Deeper sonar fish finder to get a look at what’s going on under the surface - depth, fish numbers, the lot. Handy bit of kit and it gave us exactly what we needed.

Always interesting seeing what these small ponds are hiding. Video from the visit below if you fancy a look.

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a well‑earned break.

We’re back at work this week and excited to get stuck into a busy 2026. Pioneer Habitats has a full calendar ahead, and we’re looking forward to supporting land managers, developers, and communities with habitat creation, ecological mitigation, site compliance, and all the practical environmental solutions we’re known for.

The start of the year is always a great time to take stock of upcoming projects. Whether you’re planning works on development sites, reviewing land management needs, or looking to enhance biodiversity on your patch, early conversations make everything run more smoothly.

If you’ve got projects on the horizon and want to make sure you’re prepared for the year’s ecological windows and requirements, feel free to get in touch. We’re here and ready to help.

Here’s to a productive, positive year ahead.

Exciting Project News for Pioneer Habitats!

We’re delighted to share that Pioneer Habitats has been awarded a suite of ecological works by an independent consultancy in the North East of England, for delivery on behalf of a major manufacturing client.
The works will see us:
- Undertake hedgerow management along key access routes to improve safety and site presentation.
- Carry out vegetation clearance around quarry ponds, creating open habitat that supports Great Crested Newt movement and enhances pond ecology.
- Deliver wildflower verge preparation and overseeding across factory sites, boosting biodiversity and creating vibrant meadow areas.

We’re proud to be trusted with this work and look forward to delivering high‑quality results that balance operational needs with ecological sensitivity.
