What a busy and totally fabulous week at Eastwood Memory Cafe!

Tuesday saw our monthly meeting, it was wonderful to welcome a few new faces and have the very colourful Martin Gregory back with us. Martin certainly put lots of smiles on faces with his cheeky routine, getting lots of folks up dancing and singing, along with plenty of requests to book Martin again. soon!

On Wednesday we had 23 Bowling Buddies meet up at Greasley Sports and Community Centre. Everyone enjoyed Beryl’s delicious cakes of course and there was plenty of chat, with a good dose of bowling thrown in! Though a few Bowling Buddies are still getting used to that indoor green!

And what a finale today! We thoroughly enjoyed the latest production, The Sound of Music by the super-talented Nowmads!
Every time we say, “That was the best one yet!” and today was no exception with several of our members needing their hankies!
Huge congratulations and well done to everyone involved. Once again, a first-class production, and how wonderful to see the Von Trapp children brought to life on stage. Wow! 🎭

A week full of laughter, friendship, music and lovely memories. ❤️

Courtesy of Eastwood Football Club, I joined Andrew and Gill Richards, and Sue and Robin Sharp, to watch the Badgers (Eastwood's nickname) play hosts to league leaders Belper United FC this afternoon.

Basking in glorious sunshine (is it really October? In the East Midlands?) we had the best seats in the ground to watch a tight and evenly-fought contest reach half-time with honours even at 0-0, Eastwood having two goals disallowed in the process!

Half-time entertainment had Ilkeston's “Giant” of TV's Gladiators fame donning goalie’s gloves to ready himself and face what looked like Eastwood’s entire junior population take it in turns to fire in penalties against him. No wonder we didn’t see him again afterwards; he must have been worn-out!

After the break, both team tried in vain to crack the deadlock. Then, just as a 0-0 draw looked to be the likely outcome, and with just 5 minutes left on the clock, Eastwood’s Luke Rawson squeezed the ball into the net to great cheers of delight from the bumper home crowd.

And just to make sure of 3 points, in the dying seconds of the match Jamie Walker put the icing on the cake with a second goal for the Badgers to edge them to within 5 points of Belper, and with two games in hand!

A brilliant afternoon out. Our thanks to Eastwood FC for making it so, and our best wishes.

This week saw the first indoor session for our Bowling Buddies at Greasley Sports and Community Centre

Due to illness and holidays, we were a little low on numbers, but that certainly didn't lessen the fun. Sue played like a pro and totally smashed it on the green!

And everyone enjoyed the always-delicious treats, courtesy of our master baker, Beryl 😋

Looking forward to October 14th already!

And so it's official, Kevin from Willbond Plumbing Supplies-Ilkeston will be donning the "Carry Me" Sheep for his challenge next month!

"As a Nottingham Forest fan I will complete the entire 14-mile walk wearing a hilarious "carry me" costume as a sheep! Yes, looking like I am hitching a ride on a sheep for all 14 miles, no matter how long my exhausted legs take!"

"At £750 - The Derby County Ram: If we hit this target, I will add a Derby County hat and scarf as well as a Hoody declaring my passion for Derby County to the sheep costume and take a video of myself crossing the finish line."

I am taking on a challenging 14-mile circular walk to raise vital funds for Eastwood Memory Cafe, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart. While the organizers estimate this trek will take around 4 to 5 hours depending on fitness levels, let's be completely honest: I am spectacularly unfit, so this is going to be a monumental, grueling struggle for me. There is no maximum time limit here—I'll be out on my feet for as long as it takes to drag myself across that finish line!
