We are delighted to share that our Safe Online Volunteer Advisors have been nominated for a BBC Radio Solent Make a Difference Award 2026💙

These awards celebrate individuals and groups who make life better for people across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight, so it is a real honour to be recognised.

Our Safe Online volunteers give their time each week to support older and vulnerable people across Hampshire, helping them stay safer online, avoid scams and fraud, and regain confidence after experiencing online crime.

They provide one-to-one support in people’s homes, as well as delivering talks to community groups to raise awareness of online safety.

A huge thank you to our incredible Safe Online Volunteer Advisors for the care, patience and compassion they bring to every visit. This nomination is a wonderful recognition of the difference they make in our communities👏

This week is Carers Week 2026 💙

Carers Week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of caring, recognises the incredible contribution unpaid carers make, and highlights the challenges they can face every day.

This year’s theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, focuses on the importance of creating communities where carers are recognised, understood and supported.

At the Blue Lamp Trust, we know how vital carers are in helping loved ones stay safe, independent and supported at home. This week, we join others across the UK in thanking carers for everything they do.

To every unpaid carer supporting someone they love: thank you. Your care, time and commitment make a real difference. https://www.carersweek.org/

You’re amazing. Through us all coming together and sharing our support, we can help ensure our communities recognise, understand and value unpaid carers. Your name will soon appear on the Building Carer Friendly Communities wall, once our team has approved your entry.

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to our volunteers for the time, skills and dedication they give to supporting people in our communities.

Your contribution makes a real difference, helping people feel safer, more confident and better supported💙

As we celebrate the impact of volunteering, we are also looking to recruit Safe Online Volunteer Advisors in Hampshire to join our team.

This role would suit someone with a background in IT who would like to use their knowledge to help others. Our Safe Online volunteers deliver home visits and community talks, providing practical, easy-to-understand online safety advice to help people protect themselves from scams, fraud, identity theft and other digital security threats.

Expecting a delivery? Scammers are counting on it 📦

With more people shopping online than ever, delivery scams are becoming increasingly common - especially targeting older and vulnerable people.

You might receive a text or email claiming there’s an issue with your parcel, asking you to click a link or pay a small fee. These messages can look convincing, but they’re designed to steal personal or financial information.

Through our Safe Online service, we help people recognise and avoid scams like these, building confidence to stay safe online - supported by sponsors Uniq Technology, who share our commitment to improving online safety.

Stay one step ahead:
- Don’t click links from unexpected messages
- Check delivery updates directly through the official courier website
- Look out for unusual wording, unknown numbers, or urgent requests
- Never share personal or payment details via text or email

If you or someone you know would benefit from support, our team is here to help bluelamptrust.org.uk

World No To***co Day 🚭

Smoking isn’t just a health risk - it’s one of the leading causes of accidental fires in the home.

Across the UK, smoking-related fires cause hundreds of incidents each year, putting lives - particularly older and vulnerable people - at serious risk.

Through our Safe Home service, we work closely with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to help people stay safe where it matters most.

Every visit is carried out by a police-vetted Safety Technician, professionally trained - including in fire safety - to provide practical advice and reassurance.

During a visit, we can:
- Identify fire risks in the home
- Ensure working smoke alarms are in place
- Provide tailored safety advice to reduce risk

Our team are friendly, empathetic and there to help residents feel safer and more confident in their homes. Because small changes can prevent serious incidents.

If you or someone you know could benefit from a free home safety visit, we’re here to help.
