Our Voice Panels give you the opportunity to influence the decisions we make and ensure our services reflect the needs, experiences, and wishes of the communities we support.

This is a flexible volunteer role with no travel required and no big time commitment. All we ask is that you’re willing to share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas to help us improve the support we provide to children, young people, adults, and their families.

We have three panels:
- Family Voice Panel
- Youth Voice Panel (18-25)
- Professional Voice Panel

Join us in wishing Team Daybreak a huge good luck for the Great South Run this weekend - thank you so much Kellie, Hannah, Corin, Lisa, Diane and Lexi.

They are taking part to fundraise for our Dragonfly project in Portsmouth. The project works with children, young people and families who are experiencing challenges. The project brings people together, helps them connect with their support networks, and ensures every voice is heard so families can move forward together with a shared plan.

We are pleased to share that our Family Group Conference Coordinator course is now CPD Accredited!

As part of this work, our Training team have been busy updating and strengthening the course in response to practitioner feedback and the latest government reforms that call for greater access to Family Group Decision Making within Children's Social Care.

Today is World Mental Health Day. We wanted to take this opportunity to share a composite story illustrating how Family Group Decision Making can support people who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

"The Family Group Conference Coordinator spent considerable time preparing family members individually before the conference, helping them understand the purpose of the meeting and creating opportunities to discuss their concerns.

These conversations enabled family members to learn more about how trauma and anxiety affected Andrei and the challenges he experienced during periods of stress.

The wishes and feelings of the children were also captured. Although they did not want to attend, the Coordinator spent time to understand their views so that they could be bought into the Conference – helping everyone to better understand the impact that they were also experiencing.

During private family time, the family developed a comprehensive support plan focused on improving communication, reducing conflict, and increasing support around both parents and children."

"It points to an urgent need for standardised data collection, specialist domestic abuse training on the impact of domestic abuse in pregnancy and on babies, and national investment in early interventions to break cycles of domestic abuse and give every baby the best start in life."

The charity, The For Baby's Sake Trust has released a new report exploring the high volume of domestic abuse disclosures made to maternity services in England.

This is such an important piece of work. We welcome the call for further focus on this issue together with vital training for staff and investment in early interventions that bring the whole family together.

To illustrate how family group decision making can support people during hospice care, we've put together a composite story based on a range of real-life hospice care situations from our direct family work.

"The process created an opportunity for Holly to express her wishes regarding both her own care and the future of Kai and Logan.

At the same time, the Coordinator ensured that both boys were able to participate in ways that felt comfortable and appropriate for them, keeping their voices at the centre of decision-making.

The Conference enabled the family to have open and honest conversations about what now that Holly was no longer able to care for her sons.

Together, they developed clear plans, including shared responsibility for emotional and practical support during Holly's remaining care, long-term living arrangements for the children with their grandmother, arrangements to maintain school attendance and routines, and clear communication pathways with professionals."

Last month, we ran a small training course for existing child-focused Family Group Conference Coordinators to expand their skillsets for working with adults.

It is wonderful to see more practitioners exploring this way of working for the benefit of adults, as well as children and families.

Last week, the Government announced more support for children and babies through the Healthy Babies programme, alongside other developments including a new adult social care workforce plan.

We welcome more integrated, early intervention for families - as well as much needed support unpaid carers. We look forward to seeing how this will happen in our local communities.

A new report has explored the rise in babies in care proceedings.

At Daybreak, we encourage professionals working with expectant parents to think about Family Group Decision Making as early as possible during pregnancy. Early intervention gives families the time and space to identify strengths, mobilise their support networks, and explore practical solutions before a baby is born.

Engaging families early creates opportunities for newborns to experience care within their family network wherever it is safe and appropriate to do so. Even when a child cannot remain in their parents' care, families consistently tell us that being actively involved in decision-making helped them feel heard, respected, and empowered to contribute to plans for their child's future.

We hope that with greater embedding of Family Group Decision Making more families can access this support when they need and want it.
