How we began
Our story began in 2012 by William Lord, or Bill, to those who know him. Bill is an Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome support specialist who established the Eastbourne Asperger’s Support Group. Bill works for Aspens Charities, and facilitated the Support Group for a couple of years before Clive and Justin.
Since than a lot has changed, and the Support Group has grown in popularity to become an Autistic Led Support Group, with generous support provided by Aspens Charities who continue to facilitate the Friday afternoon. Us autistic volunteers would not be able to cope with the demands without Clive and Justin!
We hold regular group meetings every Friday afternoon in The Deerfold Centre with an average attendance of about a dozen members who attend each week. Our regular Key Worker, Clive Sheppard from Aspens is often available Friday afternoon between 1-5pm and offers 1-2-1 private appointments by advance booking only. It’s best to establish yourselves as a regular member as demand can be high to see Clive or Justin for individual support.
Our website, email service, WordPress site, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is controlled by autistic members of the Friday afternoon group.
