You Raise Me Up

You Raise Me Up Offering emotional support to families that have suffered the loss of a young adult between the ages of 16-25 Why was this charity formed?

The ‘You Raise Me Up’ charity is based in Eastbourne and is one of the only National Charities that offers emotional support to families who have sadly lost a child between the ages of 16 and 25. We were founded in June 2011 with the sole purpose of raising funds to support these families. On 3rd May 2011 our founders Jane and Fraser lost their beautiful 17 year old daughter, Megan Brooks. Megan s

uddenly collapsed and died at Eastbourne Rugby Club, just 9 days before her 18th birthday. Megan’s parents and her brother Oliver, were traumatised and trying to pick up the pieces of their lives whilst stumbling through the aftershock, they felt they had little or no guidance or support other than from family and close friends. Those first few days and weeks dealing with their loss and grief, whilst coping with the immediate demands of arranging a funeral were emotionally and financially challenging. How do you recover from the loss of a child, the pain and sorrow is incomprehensible. They knew after their experience how valuable and supportive it would have been had there been help available like our charity. As a result, they founded the ‘You raise me up’ charity in June 2011 with the sole purpose of raising funds to support families who have suffered the loss of a child between the ages of 16 and 25. We are sad that the need is there, yet encouraged and comforted to know that the charity has helped so many families through the charity’s counselling service offering emotional support as they rebuild their lives. Without your generous support and donations none of this would be possible so THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the closure of You Raise Me Up due to a lack of ongoing financial support.

We have loved being able to support so many families for the last 15 years in memory of Megan and Jane Brooks.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported the charity for the past 15 years and we are so grateful to have had this opportunity for as long as we have.
We also pay tribute to all our staff, counsellors and supporters – including many local businesses - for all the hard work they have done. It has been a privilege working with everyone.

You Raise Me Up has been an incredibly special place for so many and we will treasure the experiences we have had and the wonderful families we have met.
This decision has not been easy and we have explored all viable options, but unfortunately due to a lack of sustained financial support and rising operational costs we can no longer operate.

This is an incredibly difficult time and we know how much upset this will cause. But we are immensely proud of everything You Raise Me Up has achieved. Megan and Jane’s legacy will continue beyond the organisation itself.

As of now we will no longer be operating. Our priority now is to ensure a responsible and compassionate wind-down.

Meet Darryl!

A devoted dad to two amazing girls, happily married for 14 years, and someone who never stops giving back. Alongside running his own business, JWD Spray, Darryl is also the Branch Manager and Senior Instructor at Canton Martial Arts in Folkestone, where he helps build confidence and discipline in others every day.

Now he’s taking on his biggest challenge yet - a skydive for the You Raise Me Up charity, stepping well outside his comfort zone to support an incredible cause. This jump isn’t just about the adrenaline, it’s about raising vital funds and making a real difference for those who need it most.

If you’re able to donate, any amount - big or small - will help us reach our fundraising goal and support this brilliant charity.
