THE SHUNAR BANGLA ASSOCIATION
In May 1987, after an initial discussion between Mr. Ansar Miah (decd) and Mr Harun Miah, it was then decided that there was an urgent need to establish a community organisation. The group targeted were members of the local Bengali population resident in Eastbourne and its surroundings area. The immediate aim and objectives of the association were:
to improve e
ducation and training
to provide recreational activities
to work towards a general improvements in quality of life
Following the initial discussions the Bengali populations was consulted to find others who were interested in helping to further the above aims. Three other persons came forward to join the two original members, thus forming the first executive committee, and named the organisation the Shunar Bangla Association. These were: Mr Abdul Khalique, Mr Sulaman Miah and Mr Akbor Ali. This is in fact, was how the Shunar Bangla Association was founded. The association has passed the years successfully having done numerous activities for the benefit of the Bangladeshi community of Eastbourne and surroundings in East Sussex. Association has been working with its full strength to perform the need for the community, Such as support and assists on the field of educations, cultural, social, recreational, welfare and global relief. The association has embraced various programmes and celebrations for all ages and all ethnic communities. Since 1987 the association is a very significant and constructive duration for the Sussex. In that period the association has been funded by the people of the east Sussex and the caterers. In 2004 the association registered as the charitable, the only first Bengali association in East Sussex to be registered. Association has been granted enormous funds from the supporters and funders in various needs it has shown the activities that positive for the Bangladeshi community. The association takes a great pride in the Bengali school which was opened and funded by people and the local authority in 2003, successfully providing the children in learn their mother tongue language as well as the culture, tradition, heritage, and histories of Bangladesh. We are fully committed to promote prosperity, equality, and opportunity for our community.
