Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team

Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team The team also provides First Aid Training. We are a scout active support unit, based in Eastbourne, but with members drawn from across the UK.

Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team is a group of adult members of the scout movement from all over the UK that come together to provide Medical care solely at Scouting and Guiding events. We provide first aid and medical support solely to scout and guide events. Our focus is on providing a professional standard of care and we constantly push ourselves to improve this. In addition to our even

t cover we also provide registered and regulated professional first aid training at heavily discounted rates making this level of qualification affordable and achievable by scout leaders.

As we reach the end of 2025, we thought we would share some more photographs of a couple of events, the we had the pleasure of assisting.
At the start of November, we were delighted to run the Emergency Aid Weekend for members of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers sections.
Towards the end of November, we ran a small First Response Course for adult members of East Sussex Scouts.
These events closed a busy year for the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team.
We already have both Training and First Aid Cover Events booked into the New Year. With First Response courses at Bushy Wood Activity Centre in both January and March. We also have an Outdoor First Aid course in March, which still has a number of places open. If you are interested in attending a Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid, which covers essential skills for managing first aid situations in outdoor environments including handling multiple casualties, cardiac arrest , and injuries, please email [email protected]

Very best wishes for the New Year - 2026.

Also during October, members of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team Communications group helped out at Eastbourne District Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) event. Providing a rotatable pneumatic mast for the 2 Meter antenna and some of the large monitors we use for hike monitoring and control for the FT8. Other team members ran the Phonetic Alphabet base, whilst the EDSFAT catering team provided a cooked meal for all the participants.
There is more than Scouting First Aid and Medical Care to EDSFAT.
If you would like to help in the provision of radio communication at Scouting events in and around Sussex, please do get in touch.

During October several members of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team (EDSFAT) attended the Chiltern 20 Challenge.
As well as providing First Aid for the challenge participants and staff, FREC 4 team members took the opportunity to start familiarisation on the LIFEPAK 15 monitor / defibrillator. This is the beginning of EDSFAT’s move to transition from the LIFEPAK 12s to the LIFEPAK 15s.

During the weekend Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team had the privilege of providing the First Aid and Medical cover at the amazing Lydiard Park Fireworks Spectacular.

With a large team at the event, it gave our members a chance to have rest breaks and a bit of fun.

During August, members of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team provided the core membership of the NORJAM First Aid and Medical team.

The start of the event for EDSFAT was the loading of the catering section’s equipment, the communication / control equipment and all the first aid and medical equipment. With three stores locations, this took several days at the various sites.

Once all the equipment arrived onsite, members of the EDSFAT Large Event planning team laid out and marked the floor plan of the medical Centre.
Working with members of the Norfolk ICE team and other Scouting and Guiding first aiders and medics, the Medical Centre was built up following the in depth ‘Get In’ plan.

EDSFAT took three of the team vehicles to NORJAM; the Land Rover Discovery Ambulance, the Renault Ambulance and the Renault Communications Control vehicle. These joined other vehicles on site.
As well as the catering, communications and first aid and medical equipment, EDSFAT took a number of items of specialist support equipment, including the team’s new mass phone charging unit.

What makes EDSFAT the team that it is, is the membership. It was great to have so many of EDSFAT members on site for the event. It was also good to be working with other staff, who were important members of the NORJAM team.

When not on duty, EDSFAT members very much enjoy the fun and friendship of the group. Be it using EDSFAT’s ‘Mr. Whippy’ machine or joining in the mid-camp Christmas dinner prepared and cooked by our own catering section.

Part of the EDSFAT family are the EDSFAT kids, who accompany their parents. During NORJAM one of the kids meet up with one of our friends from the Stiff and Stilted.

Throughout NORJAM we were joined on site, by members of MED-PTS, who provided our ambulance transport to hospital.

At the end of camp, it was time to reload everything into the vans, transport home, and return everything to the various stores.

Massive thanks to all the team members involved. As well as those who actually attended NORJAM, those involved in the preparation, loading and unloading equipment as well.

The Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team always looks to provide First Aid and Medical care at Scouting events at a low cost, to have the least impact on event costs and finances. To assist with this, members of EDSFAT spent the three days of the Bank Holiday weekend parking cars at the Eastbourne Historic Vehicle Club Festival of Transport to raise funds for the team.
Due to the recent dry weather, the field was a dustbowl and team members had to wear facemasks when parking the vehicles. At the end of the event, everything needed to be pressure washed.
