Our mission is simply to encourage people to discover, value and buy from the local Makers and Artists in this famously creative part of Sussex and from very small beginnings here we are today…

OPPORTUNITY: Free Creative Conversations

Steve Bannatyne is offering free informal one-to-one conversations with creatives working across art, craft, design and making.

”Creative work can be deeply solitary. Many artists, makers and writers spend long periods working alone, with very few opportunities to talk openly about their ideas, doubts or direction. So many of us work in isolation. Having someone to bounce ideas off and gain an outside perspective is invaluable.

I’m offering informal one-to-one conversations with creatives working across art, craft, design and making. These are relaxed but thoughtful discussions about your practice - the work itself, direction, challenges, ideas and next steps. Conversations are open to anyone working in a creative field, at any stage of their practice.”

🌼🏺🌞 Day 3 of takeover! ✨ on this last one post I’d like to take the opportunity to talk about what’s to come and what projects are on my desk at the moment 💘

✨ Put in the diary 📖 14/15 March: you will find me at the Ceramics Fair 🌞 30 independent makers, 10-4 and free entry! Come say hi 👋🏼 it’s my first one and I’m very excited to be part of this!

🌸 I’m also working on a menu cover for the wonderful people from 🍷 no pictures to show my progress but looking forward to sharing the end result ✨

🌺 In between clay fun, projects and being a mum, you’ll always find me tattooing at or sketching new ideas ☁️ come for a visit if you’re in town!

Day 2 of Instagram take over! once again here 🌞 this post will be all about inspiration!

🌼 My tattooing, as well as my paintings and ceramics, are inspired by my current surroundings as well as my home back in the Mediterranean - landscapes, history, art, architecture, folklore, textiles, etc.

💘 I love living in Sussex because it offers a very diverse scenery, very much so where I come from but in a different way 🫶🏼🌞💕 the flower gardens, rolling hills, cottages, cliffs, beaches.. 💘 ..I could keep going for a while!

✨ Sussex is also a hub for creativity and independent businesses, and I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with some very talented people as well as making friends. I’ll share here who inspires me in the area and what my favourite places are!

🌺 1-7 pics are about some of my work and snippets of what makes my heart sing! Including a vase with prickly pears from back home in Sicily, couldn’t not include that! 8 - who makes colorful designs as well as being a wildlife photographer for Sussex Wildlife Trust, 9 - artwork by my husband and owner of 10 - talented tattoo artist, painter and maker, 11 - tattoo legend, print maker, painter and much more, 12 - oil painter and wonderful lady, 13 - for great illustrative ceramics, 14 - .a.c.young magical maker, illustrator and printmaker, 15 - ceramicist, gardener, immense font of knowledge, 16 - .s.creative.pottery handmade ceramics insured by Sicily, 17 - the most inspiring atmosphere you’ll find in Sussex 🌞

Hi all 🫶🏼 very excited to this Instagram takeover with - thanks Corina for asking me! 🌸

💖 My name is and I’m an Eastbourne based tattoo artist.
I’m originally from Sicily and moved to the south of England 15 years ago! 🌞

✨ I started my creative journey studying fine arts at the university of my home town, Catania. Here I had the opportunity to try different mediums, such us life drawing, linoprint, woodcut and study history of art.
Through a funding program (Erasmus) I was able to travel to France and experience life and studying abroad! I was in the region of Picardie for about 6 months and that’s where I decided to keep traveling and seek for an apprenticeship in tattooing ✨

🌺 Tattooing took me to Brighton in 2011 and I stayed in East Sussex since, where I met some great artists, friends and my now husband 🌼
Although tattooing is my main job, first love and passion, I never abandoned my interest and curiosity for crafts.
Since living in Sussex I have been very lucky to explore pottery, linoprint, prints on textiles, sewing and hopefully there will be more to come!

My ceramics journey started at and under the wings of and I fell in love with clay! After exhibiting some pieces at I had the honour of selling a vase to the incredible and haven’t stopped working with terracotta since 💕 you can find my ceramics account at ✨

Day 3 of my Makers Directory takeover .rochester_art . I recently wrapped up an exhibition at the Marine workshop workshops in Newhaven as part of alongside the formidable organizational demon that is .art . I showcased some recent floral paintings which were well received, especially a big one that I have entered to the RA summer exhibition 😬🤞🏻! I have loved getting back into painting flowers, so I’m going to be doing some more. I hope to host plenty of workshops over the spring and summer- see my post from earlier today if you’re interested and drop me a message. I will be back at Marine workshops in July and November with . Thanks for looking at my posts and thank you for having me Corina. 😊

It’s me .rochester_art for takeover day 2.
My inspiration to be creative comes from anything from a cute stationary shop to layers of paint peeling from an old boat.
My inspiration for my abstract and landscape paintings comes from my sketchbooks which I fill in and around the nearby coastline especially Tide Mills. I develop studies from these sketches which become more and more abstract. Then I get the canvass out, or sometimes stretch my own. I work on 4 or 5 at once, nice and big using acrylics, pens, inks, and any number of brushes, sticks and scrapy tools. The first layers are totally free and I love the excitement of what will emerge from the inky washes, dry brush marks, splats and lines.
Sometimes I wish I could leave them at this stage, but this is when the magic struggle happens! Making subconscious choices I add shapes and lines, cover over areas and scratch into the surfaces creating depth and interest. I know it’s working when I am absorbed in the process and I lose track of time. The hardest part is knowing when to stop!
One of the best compliments I have had, is someone who said they could hear the waves crashing when looking at one of my abstract seascapes. If I can create that connection and evoke the imagination like that, then I am happy 😊.

Hi everyone and thank you to for letting me takeover this weekend. I’m Kate aka .rochester_art a designer, illustrator and painter living in Newhaven. My career is in print and graphic design for fashion- especially children’s wear. I still freelance in this industry as well as illustration for stationary and publishing. In contrast to all brief based work, my paintings are free and gestural, bursting with colour and movement. I’ll fill you in more over the weekend about my sketchbooks, inspiration and process.

Creative Eastbourne’s Postcard Show is OPEN!

The walls will be filled with over 500 postcards created, donated, dropped off and sent in - from Eastbourne and beyond.

Exhibition Open:
Fri 20 / Sat 21 / Sun 22 Feb - 11am-4pm at Emma Mason Gallery, Eastbourne

All works are available on a pay-what-you-can basis from £5 per postcard. It’s an accessible way to buy original art while directly supporting Creative Eastbourne’s future activity. Lots to choose from - 3D, textiles, intaglio, collage, gelli print, drawing, illustration, photography...

There will also be a small postcard-making station in the gallery throughout the exhibition, so you can sit down and contribute your own piece while you’re there.
