Momentum Children's Charity

Momentum Children's Charity Momentum Children's Charity supports children with cancer or a life-challenging condition.

Being told your child has cancer or another life-limiting condition is devastating. Day-to-day life is turned upside down, and many families feel unable to cope. Momentum is there to support the entire family during times of unimaginable strain – the children and their parents, but also siblings and grandparents. We support children and their families from all over Surrey, SW London and Sussex. Fa

milies with children facing cancer or another life-challenging condition, know we’re there for the whole journey and the whole family for as long as they need us. All families are different, so we offer individually-tailored support through our family support programme, providing holidays, trips and treats to help during the stress of treatment. We also work hand in hand with local hospitals, including St George's Tooting, Kingston, Epsom and St Peter's, to improve the facilities and healing environment for children during hospital stays. Momentum was founded in 2004 and we support over 240 families in active treatment, as well as 110 bereaved families.

🌟 Midweek Moments 💚 2 million steps taken. Just 2 million to go.

Mabel’s grandparents have been walking. Through streams, up mountain paths, in the rain, in the heat, through injury and challenges. But it’s Mabel’s resilience that keeps them going.

At the age of 2, Mabel was diagnosed with cancer. She faced lumbar punctures, chemotherapy, transfusions, and relentless hospital appointments. Robert and Ana Maria saw her strength through it all. Now they’re walking for the charity that walked with them.

“Momentum Children’s Charity which has been by the family’s side since day one and which has helped to see us through our darkest days into a bright future for Mabel.”

🌿 Sunday Reflections 💚 To every Momentum Dad today.

🔔 This post contains reflections on child bereavement. Please take care when reading.

Some fathers hold their children’s hands. Others hold their children’s memory. Both kinds of love are infinite, and both make you a father forever.

We're thinking of you, and we're here with you every step of the way.

🌍 Spotlight Saturday 💚 What the Brothers’ Trust makes possible

When a child is seriously ill, or when the unthinkable happens and a child
dies, the questions don't stop at the medical ones. How do we pay the
bills? Am I entitled to any support? What about our housing? How do I
even fill in this form? These questions pile up in the middle of an already
overwhelming time.

💚 And they are exactly what our social work service is here to help with. For
the third year running, The Brothers' Trust has made it possible for us to
keep that service running. Fully funded. Free to every family we support.
That kind of sustained, committed giving is something special. It tells our
families that people in their corner are not going anywhere.

Our Senior Social Worker, Hana, supports more than 100 families a year
across London, Surrey and Sussex, helping with DLA and PIP applications,
financial hardship, housing difficulties, education, employment and so
much more. Her dedication was recently recognised nationally by the
British Association of Social Workers, and we could not be prouder.

But none of it would be possible without people who choose to show up,
year after year. To The Brothers' Trust: thank you for the years of standing
with us, and with the families who need it most. For believing that
practical support is just as vital as emotional support. For making sure no
family has to face the paperwork, the phone calls, or the impossible
decisions, alone. It means everything.

social work support, you can find out more here.

✨ Feel-Good Friday 💚 All aboard!

Phoebe often worries her son won't be able to join in.

Last Sunday, that worry eased for a few hours. Her family joined forty others for a trip on a steam train through Kent, as ten of our supported families travelled from New Romney to Hythe and back along the historic Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, with a picnic stop in between.

The trip was gifted by long-term supporter Phil Swallow, with help from the railway's own staff and our wonderful volunteers along the way.

For Phoebe, accessibility made all the difference. "The steam train was completely accessible with ramps and wheelchair accessible carriages, and everyone was so helpful," she told us. "It was lovely to meet other families supported by Momentum."

Days like this give families room to breathe, to laugh, and to just be together, away from hospital appointments and the everyday weight of caring for a seriously ill child.

A huge thank you to Phil Swallow, the team at Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, and every volunteer who helped make the day so special.

🎤🎭 Chris McCausland Headlines Momentum’s Comedy Night 2026.

We all need a proper laugh sometimes. The kind that completely resets your week, makes your shoulders drop, and brings people together. But between the busyness of daily life, expensive tickets, and the chaos of late-night London, planning a great night out can feel out of reach.

Problem solved!

On Thursday 9th July, we are taking over the Arthur Cotterell Theatre at Kingston College for Momentum’s Comedy Night. We are bringing a powerhouse line-up right to your doorstep for a guaranteed night of live entertainment.

Strictly Come Dancing champion, BAFTA winner, and Surbiton local. He is selling out arenas nationwide, but he is headlining right here in Kingston for one night only.

Star of BBC One's Live at the Apollo.

As seen on ITV's Stand Up Sketch Show and Mock the Week.

Our fantastic host, Erich is a brilliant UK comedy circuit regular who has brought his sharp, hilarious political commentary to the likes of BBC Breakfast and Sky News.

We’ve made booking simple. You can grab single tickets for £20, a bundle of 4 for £70 if you are bringing a group, or a date-night package of two tickets and a bottle of wine for £65.

Best of all, you get to enjoy a spectacular night of live comedy knowing that the proceeds go directly toward helping Momentum Children's Charity support local families navigating the serious illness or death of a child.

Brilliant stand-up, zero London stress, and a wonderful way to support a really great cause.

🍷🎟️ The bar opens at 7pm and the show starts at 7.45pm. Secure your seats through the link in our bio.

💪 Motivational Monday 💚 A dad, a bike, and £5,000

🔔 This post contains reflections on child bereavement. Please take care when reading.

He's done this ride twice before. This year, he did it again.

140 kilometres through the mountains of Kerry, in memory of his son, who died before he turned three.

Dan started cycling for Momentum after his family went through something no parent should ever face. His little boy was diagnosed with leukaemia just after his second birthday.

He fought with everything he had. He gave nurses high fives on the hardest days. He kept smiling.

🚵 So Dan cycles. To honour that courage and fight.

For the third year running, Dan has completed the Ring of Beara challenge alongside three friends. This year they raised over £5,000 for families who, like Dan’s, need someone to show up in the toughest moments. Momentum has been part of his family's life through his son’s treatment and beyond. Through family days, bereavement support, and the simple, steady presence of people who understand what it really means to grieve a child.

🌍 Spotlight Saturday 💚 Thank you Painshill

This half term, our families spent the afternoon at Park, heading into the trees and building shelters within nature.

It's one of a series of events Painshill have generously opened their doors for through their Access Fund: a coffee morning bringing parents together, den building during the school holidays, and a guided tour of the grounds for our grandparents community.

For the children, it's a chance to play, build, and be outside: a safe space to just be a kid. For parents, it's permission to exhale. For grandparents, it's the rare gift of meeting others who know what this life is like, in a place as beautiful as this.

The team at Painshill Park have been wonderful. They get it. They understand the value of space, of nature, of giving families room to just be.

Thank you, . We're so grateful.

👋 If you're a Momentum family and would love to come along to future events, speak to your Family Support Worker about what's coming up.

✨ Feel-Good Friday 💚 All hands on deck!

Somewhere at Shepperton Marina, there's treasure to be found. 🏴‍☠️

A treasure map. A wooden chest hidden in the trees. And a crew of pirates and mermaids who had a whole marina to explore.

During May Half Term, Momentum families joined our Family Support Workers Diana and Sam at Marina for a day of adventure on the riverbank. There were bubbles, giant Kerplunk, football, and a picnic in the sunshine. And then, when the treasure had been found, everyone set sail on our 40ft riverboat along the River Thames.

💬 One mum told us: "The boat was a real hit, he didn't want to get off! For myself as mum, it provided a chance to relax and enjoy peaceful surroundings. The picnic was a chance to chat to other families like mine, which always helps to remind you that you aren't alone on this journey."

This is what a Momentum family day looks like. Just children being children. Out in the open air. A day to dress up, explore, laugh, and breathe, surrounded by people who understand.

Thank you to the wonderful team at Shepperton Marina and our brilliant riverboat volunteers for making it all possible.
