Group commit ‘pour’ decisions

Three men from an organised crime group (OCG) who stole over £2,000 worth of alcohol in 2025 have been sentenced.

Tudor-Gabriel Baratoiu, 37 (DOB: 18/01/1989) from ; Ionut-Alexandru Mihalcea, 30 (DOB: 10/02/1996) from and Balauta Georgian Razvan, 47 (DOB: 17/11/1978) from all originally pleaded not guilty to theft of alcohol from Sainsbury’s Bridge Way on Sunday, 17 August and Saturday, 11 October 2025 before changing their plea to guild at an earlier hearing.

They were sentenced at Staines Magistrates Court last Wednesday (10 June) and were ordered to pay £300 each in compensation to Sainsbury’s and to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work each.

All three men were captured on CCTV throughout the store during the incident in October. Baratoiu acted as the spotter, before all three congregated in the soft drinks’ aisle, no not to hydrate and make better life choices, but to cut the security tags off the bottles of alcohol.

Members of Elmbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team and response officers worked closely with plainclothes store detectives, who were covertly watching the group and helped guide the officers in as the trio moved towards the exit of the store.

Elmbridge Borough Commander, Inspector Chris Thoday said: “We work closely with all the big retailers to tackle organised crime across the borough. This is yet another example of how these close relationships and teamwork are producing results. I would urge retailers to continue to report all shoplifting offences as we know a large majority go unreported."

This year, Operation Replicate brought together police and partner agencies across Sussex, Surrey and neighbouring counties in a coordinated effort to tackle rogue traders and protect communities from doorstep crime. The aim was to prevent people from becoming victims, disrupt criminal behaviour, and protect those most at risk.

Rogue traders often target vulnerable people, such as older residents or those living alone. They go door‑to‑door offering services like roofing, driveway repairs or gardening, often claiming urgent work is needed and using pressure to secure quick agreement and large upfront payments. The work is often poor, incomplete or unnecessary.

Dispersal Order
22/05/2026

Dispersal Order

A dispersal order has been authorised in Sheerwater from 6pm this evening (Friday, 22 May) until 5.59pm on Sunday, 24 May.

Inspector Blaine Rafferty said: “This dispersal order has been authorised following reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) and reports of people with weapons in the area over the last two weeks.

“Any reports that have been made to police are already under investigation, and two people have been charged in relation to one incident.

“A dispersal order is a preventative measure that gives officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave an area if they are committing, or are likely to commit, a criminal offence. It allows us to respond rapidly should we need to deal with ASB or criminality in Sheerwater.

“I would like to reassure you that there will be additional police patrols in the area while the dispersal order is active to ensure we can all enjoy the bank holiday weekend - when we anticipate there will be more people out and about in the area and good weather - safely.

“We encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences any anti-social or criminal behaviour to contact us straight away via direct message. In an emergency, always call 999.”
