🌊 BIG FORTH CLEANUP 🌊

On 28th, 29th & 30th August, we’re joining forces with Forth Ports to make a difference to one of Scotland’s busiest coastal areas.

The Forth is home to amazing wildlife, supports a huge part of Scotland’s population, and is vital for shipping, fishing and recreation. Let’s come together and give it the care it deserves!

Whether you’re a group who are already beach cleaning regularly, a community, business, individual or a group of friends, we would love for you to join us!

The Muir to Forth team (John and Mike) presented to Aberlady Conservation Society on the topic of East Lothian’s biodiversity status and the need to create nature networks.

Their talk highlighted the importance of connecting habitats across landscapes to support wildlife, strengthen biodiversity, and help nature thrive.

It seemed to go down well with our knowledgeable audience who had lots of excellent questions. Thanks to all who attended particularly Ian the organiser.

The team at Balanced Horizon are absolutely delighted to share that we were awarded Environmental Champion of the Year at the Community Champion Awards.

To be recognised among so many incredible groups and individuals is a huge honour. Hearing about all the amazing things people are doing across East Lothian made us incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful community.

A special thank you to Chocolate Tree for not only nominating us but also for their continued support of the work we do. We'd also like to thank the East Lothian Courier for organising such a fantastic event.

Thank you as well to everyone who volunteers and supports Balanced Horizon and helps make our work possible through our three projects:
Scottish Coastal Clean Up
Forth Marine Hatchery and
Muir to Forth

We're grateful to be part of a community that cares so deeply about creating positive environmental change and this award is very much for you too.

Are you a farmer or land manager looking to find out more about regenerative and nature friendly farming? SWIPE ➡️➡️ Go to the new Future Farming East Lothian website ffel.org to check out an excellent talk by Ed Horton on regenerative transformations. This event was delivered through Balanced Horizon, who is working with East Lothian Climate Hub and Propagate (Scotland) to deliver more events like these and widen our Future Farming East Lothian (FFEL) network. FFEL aims to increase farmer and land managers knowledge about regenerative and nature formerly farming, as well as supporting farmer to farmer discussions and provide access to agri-environment funding. See us next at the Royal Highland Show talking about water management and visit ffel.org for more information! 💧🌳🪻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Today we celebrate the birthday of David Attenborough, a man whose voice, passion and storytelling has inspired generations across the world.
From childhood memories of watching his documentaries with family, to encouraging younger generations to protect our planet, his impact reaches far beyond television.
He has helped millions see the beauty and importance of the natural work, reminding us all why it deserves to be protected.
Happy birthday Sir David and thank you!

Ever spotted an oyster shell along the Firth of Forth and wondered how long it’s been there? Chances are, it’s a relic from when the native European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) thrived in these waters.

Today they’re gone, but Restoration Forth is working to bring them back, rebuilding a lost ecosystem. Our project is helping drive that effort by creating a local, sustainable supply of native oysters to support recovery!
