PMF is delighted to have received a grant from The Hospital Saturday Fund. The grant will be used to support medical research and innovation in the South West. Thank you HSF.

✨ What an Incredible Evening in Plymouth! ✨ A huge thank you to all our grant recipients and guests who joined us at the University of Plymouth. Celebrating 25 remarkable charities in one room was truly inspiring — your work, your stories, and your energy made the night unforgettable.
We’re also deeply grateful to the University of Plymouth for so generously hosting the Charity Reception and helping create such a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

💙 Running for Tory, Running for Hope 💙
On 28th February, Stephen Wren will once again take on the Chichester Harbour Trail Run to complete a challenging 10‑mile route, running in loving memory of his daughter Tory Wren. He is raising funds to support vital Brain Tumour Research through the Peninsula Medical Foundation.

Groundbreaking Research on Liver Disease and Microplastics Begins

PMF is delighted to confirm that Alex Mead, who previously trained at the University of Plymouth, has accepted a fully funded PhD studentship and will begin in January 2026. This exciting opportunity is made possible through PMF’s generous contribution of £60,000, alongside additional support from the University, bringing the total funding to £81,000. Alex’s research will focus on a critical and emerging health challenge: the presence of micro and nanoplastics in the human liver....

🧠 PMF Supports ICU Delirium Research
The Peninsular Medical Foundation is funding a genetic sub-study within the NIHR-backed DAYDREAM trial, led by Dr Jessie Welbourne and Prof Dan Martin.
The study compares daytime-only vs. continuous feeding in ventilated ICU patients to see if restoring circadian rhythm can reduce delirium. Recruitment begins in Plymouth and Southampton from Nov 2024.

The Peninsular Medical Foundation is supporting a sub-study of the NIHR funded DAYDREAM study, led by Dr Jessie Welbourne from the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, and Prof Dan Martin from the University of Plymouth. The trial will recruit patients in Plymouth and Southampton between November 2024 and 2025.
