Skills Exchange Scotland is a commercial training company based in East Kilbride. Working with a range of partners and employers across private, public & voluntary sectors with the aim of improving employment opportunities for young people aged 16-25 although some courses are aimed at an older age group.

Training and Employment Tutor.

• 37 hours per week
• £25,000 pro-rata
• 28 days annual leave + public holidays
• Fixed Term 12months

Role
Skills Exchange SCIO works across South Lanarkshire with local people who have multiple barriers to employment. We deliver training in employability, personal development, lifeskills and health and wellbeing providing support which is person-centred, flexible and responsive to individual needs. We work with a range of partners, schools, colleges, employers and third sector organisations with the aim of supporting our participants on their journey towards the world of work.

The purpose of this post:

The Training and Employment Tutors are responsible for helping participants identify, address and remove barriers to employment through various training programmes and interventions designed to support them on their journey towards the world of work. Training is delivered in small groups underpinned by intensive 1-1 support. SQA qualifications in Employability, Enterprise and Personal Development and Positive Mental Health are delivered across most of our programs and work placements included if appropriate.
This post is central to our organisation's core mission to provide high quality employability and personal development training and support to South Lanarkshire’s young people.

About you:

You will be passionate about working with disadvantaged young people to help them build confidence and recognise their potential. You will have an understanding of the client group and the barriers they face and be able to quickly develop effective relationships and build trust to ensure engagement and sustainment. You will be comfortable engaging with a range of partners, including employers, to promote Skills Exchange’s services and develop partnerships to maximise opportunities for local young people.
You will be adaptable, self-motivated, organised and able to keep calm under pressure.
Above all, you will recognise that your participants are at the heart of everything you do.

Key tasks:

• Interview, undertake initial assessments and induct participants when they start
• Deliver employability, personal development and lifeskills training to groups of participants and also on a 1-1 basis when required

• Deliver SQA assessed units as directed

• Maintain all assessment and administrative records in line with SQA requirements and deadlines, ensuring that quality criteria is met at all times

• Provide, develop and support training provision to participants that increases skills, builds confidence, raises aspirations and delivers positive progressions

• Report on progress against targets, capture monitoring and evaluation data and assist Skills Exchange marketing and communications by providing case studies, testimonials and other relevant materials.

• Keep up-to-date with labour market information to enable participants to make informed choices about the world of work.

• Work in partnership with other local organisations to maximise opportunities for participants.

• Identify and promote signposting opportunities if required for clients further removed from the labour market

• Actively promote opportunities through attendance at recruitment / information sessions

• Ensure that all associated paperwork, data management and report writing is done accurately and on time

• Any other ad hoc work as agreed with line manager to benefit the delivery of the Training and Employment role.

• Contribute to the sharing of good practice and support continuous improvement throughout Skills Exchange SCIO and promote a positive image of Skills Exchange SCIO and all the services it delivers.

• To travel to other locations connected with Skills Exchange SCIO business as required.

• Identify and highlight training and development needs in line with the requirements of the Training and Employment role in discussion with your line manager.

• Actively contribute to the maintenance of a professional and welcoming environment.

• Any other duties as may be reasonably required

Generic Requirements
The post holder will be expected to comply with Skills Exchange Scio’s policies and procedures at all times. These include, but are not limited to, equality and diversity, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

The post holder will be trained and coached in the policies and procedures of Skills Exchange Scio. They will be expected to familiarise themselves with these policies and procedures and to seek advice and guidance from their line manager if required.
The key tasks listed above are an indication of the main duties to be performed. They may be subject to amendment to take account of changing circumstances but any significant changes would be made following discussion with the post holder.

Management of Accounts and Finances,

Annual Reporting,

Engagement with external stakeholders including OSCR,

Responsible for day-to-day management of Skills exchange Staff and
contractors to ensure that project specific and all quality criteria is being met,

Developing and training Skills Exchange Staff,

Maintaining /improving Skills Exchange Organisational Resilience,

Support Skills Exchange SCIO to meet project targets,

Management of Training and Employment Tutors to ensure that project and all quality criteria is being met.

About you
Ideally will have line management /supervisory experience and experience of working in the third sector.
Experience of working with unemployed beneficiaries and supporting beneficiaries across a range of issues would be advantageous.

Experience of partnership working , working with employers and of Grants application would also beneficial.
You will be passionate about working with disadvantaged young people to help them build confidence and recognise their potential. You will have an understanding of the client group and the barriers they face and be able to quickly develop effective relationships and build trust to ensure engagement and sustainment. You will be comfortable engaging with a range of partners, including employers, to promote Skills Exchange’s services and develop partnerships to maximise opportunities for local young people.

You ideally will have SQA Assessor Award /L&D9 Qualification.
You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and able to build relationships quickly and effectively.

b. Experience of working with unemployed beneficiaries
