On Wednesday 26th August at 9am local time, a major flash flood struck the Rasuwa district of northern Nepal, affecting villages near the border of Tibet, destroying homes, roads, bridges and buildings and damaging key infrastructure like power facilities.

I was really touched to receive this book of Ukrainian recipes for my birthday from the orphanage that Meridian Rotary Supported with a stove and portable power supply . 😁

Jane Harman ( registered home baker) from East Grinstead Meridian Rotary will be hosting a Charity bake day later in September to fundraise for MacMillan Cancer Macmillan Cancer Support and Meridian Rotary's Chosen Charity........More details to follow

Last night at our meeting we celebrated Meridian Rotary's fantastic achievement in raising £25,000 for Cut Out Cancer. Through a matching grant from Rotary Foundation this has been increased to over £40,000 and the money has gone towards purchasing equipment for the new cancer unit at The Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford.

We also surprised Jane Harman, one of our Rotarians, by presenting her with a Paul Harris Fellowship. This prestigious award is in recognition of Jane's incredible organisation skills, ideas and energy to fundraise for such a worthy initiative. Not only has Jane devoted her time to Rotary but she also supports many other local groups including CAB and Being Neighbourly as well as raising funds to support orphanages in Ukraine.

The award was presented by President Peter Forrester and Vice President Bob Shaw. The award is so well deserved.

Tonight we welcomed our new Town Mayor, councillor Stephanie Reeves. She eloquently explained her role and vision plus the charities that she has chosen to support. Meridian Rotary will of course assist with anything we can. We are also delighted that she has accepted the offer to be an honorary member of Meridian Rotary.
We look forward to supporting her.
