OPEN TODAY 9:30am – 2:15pm

Let’s be honest.

Some of you are not “just dropping a bag off.”

Some of you have carefully selected one small bag of donations purely to create a perfectly reasonable excuse to come in for a shop.

And honestly?

We respect the strategy.

“Well, as I’m here, I may as well have a look…”
A classic. A masterpiece. A completely valid life choice.

We are very much open today, with lots out, more being added, and our fill one of our bags for £5 clothing offer still running.

Drop off. Pop in. Have a mooch.
We won’t tell anyone it was planned... 😉

17/06/2026

Closed today — Wednesday

We’re closed today so we can get more summer stock ready before taking a couple of days for our son’s 10th birthday.

Family time is precious, and sometimes you just have to grab the chance while it’s there.

Our fill one of our bags for £5 clothing offer is still running across our clothing range, so there are plenty of bargains waiting.

With the school holidays around the corner and budgets tighter than ever, now's the perfect time to stock up. We'll be spending today getting even more summer bargains out ready for when we reopen.

Back open:
Thursday: 9:30am–2:15pm
Friday: 9:30am–2:15pm
Saturday: 10am–3pm

Thank you for your support — we'll see you tomorrow. 💛

16/06/2026

Open today: 9:30am–2:15pm

Tuesday is the day for a proper mooch.

The sort where you come in for “just a look” and somehow find something useful, something odd, something nostalgic, and something you will later describe at home using the words:
“No, but listen…”

That is the joy of secondhand.

Nothing is pretending to be perfect.
Nothing is trying to be trendy.
Everything has already had one little life somewhere else, and now it is waiting for the next person to spot it.

And right now, that feels more important than ever.
Because life is expensive.
People are stretched.
Families are making every pound work harder.
So a £1 toy matters.
A 50p kitchen bit matters.
A small birthday present found for hardly anything matters.
A donated item becoming useful again matters.

This little shop is built from all of those small things.

A bag donated.
A bargain found.
A post shared.
A friend told.
A child helped.
A community quietly pulling together.

That is the bit that makes us emotional, honestly.
Not because it is grand.
Because it is ordinary people doing ordinary kind things — and somehow, that becomes something bigger.

Donations are welcome today, but as it’s Tuesday, please no clothing, books or DVDs.
Household bits, toys, bric-a-brac, gifts, games, puzzles and homeware are very welcome.

So come and have a Tuesday mooch.

Find something useful.
Find something ridiculous.
Find something that makes the day feel slightly less grey.

Small bargains.
Second chances.
A village doing what villages do best

Closed today for our usual Monday catch-up 💛

We’re closed today as usual, and I’m at home catching up with the seemingly endless tasks that somehow build up around everyday life.

The shop may be closed on Mondays, but that doesn’t mean everything stops.
It gives us a chance to catch up, reset a little, and get ready for another week of donations, sorting, bargains, treasures, and all the lovely chaos that comes with running a community shop.

There’s a lot going on for people at the moment. Money is tight, life feels heavy, and so many families are just doing their best to keep everything going.

That’s why your support means so much.
Whether you spend 50p, £5, £20, donate a bag, tell a friend, share a post, or simply cheer us on from Facebook — you are part of what keeps Four Colnes – It Takes a Village here.

Community shops don’t survive because of one big thing. They survive because of hundreds of small acts of support from people who care.

A bag dropped off.
A bargain found.
A post shared.
A kind word said.
A friend told.
It all adds up.

And in a time when things can feel a bit uncertain, places like this matter. Not just because they’re affordable, but because they remind us that community is still here.

People still care.

Small kindnesses still make a difference.

So thank you.

Thank you for supporting local.
Thank you for supporting community.

We’ll be back open tomorrow 💛

13/06/2026

Open today: 10am–3pm

There is a very specific kind of confidence that comes over a person in a secondhand shop on a Saturday.

You walk in saying:
“I’m not buying much today.”

Then suddenly you’re holding:
- a book you may or may not read
- a jumper for “someone”
- a toy because “it’s too good to leave”
- a kitchen thing you don’t recognise but trust deeply
- a basket, because once you pick up a basket it’s legally too late

And then comes the classic village shop sentence:
“I’ll just have one more look round.”

We all know what that means.

It means you’ve spotted something, walked away, thought about it near the books, mentioned it to the person you came with, tried to be sensible, failed, and you’ve tried to leave it behind, but unfortunately your brain has already started redecorating around it.

Honestly? We respect it.

We’re open today for the Saturday moochers, the bargain hunters, the “I only came in for a minute” people, the treasure spotters, the useful-thing rescuers, and anyone who enjoys the quiet thrill of finding something brilliant for less than the price of a fancy coffee.

12/06/2026

Open today: 9:30am–2:15pm

We would like to make it very clear that we are not responsible for any of the following:

1) Coming in for “just a quick look” and leaving 42 minutes later with a big bag of goodies.

2) Buying a mug because it “has a nice handle”.

3) Finding a basket and immediately behaving like you are on Supermarket Sweep.

4) Saying “I don’t need any more books” while holding three books.

5) Buying something because “it might come in handy” despite having no idea what it is.

6) Falling emotionally in love with a ceramic animal.

7) Leaving with one sensible item, six questionable items, and a story.

This is not our fault.

This is the ancient magic of the Friday mooch.

We’re open today for bargains, browsing, and watching people pretend they’re “just looking” while slowly forming a lifelong bond with a lamp.

11/06/2026

Open today: 9:30am–2:15pm

Today feels like a good day to say thank you.
Thank you to the people who donate things they could have sold, but choose to help instead.

Thank you to the people who pop in for “just a look” and somehow leave with half a bag of useful bits.

Thank you to the people who share our posts, recommend us, tell a friend, or bring someone in for the first time.

Thank you to the people who understand that a community shop is built on effort, goodwill and a lot of unseen work.

And thank you to the people who bring kindness through the door. It is noticed more than you know.

We’re open today for bargains, browsing and all the lovely little moments that make the shop worth doing.

10/06/2026

Open today: 9:30am–2:15pm

There’s something brilliant about secondhand shopping: you never quite know what you’re going to find.

It might be something useful.
It might be something nostalgic.
It might be something your nan definitely had in 1987.
It might be something you absolutely do not need… but suddenly cannot live without.

That’s the joy of a proper mooch.

Every item in the shop has already had one story, and today it might be ready for its next one.

Clothes, books, toys, home bits, odd little treasures — all waiting for the right person to spot them.

Pop in today, have a browse, and see what finds you can rescue.

09/06/2026

Open today: 9:30am–2:15pm

Today’s little reminder: small acts really do add up.

A bag of donations.
A shared post.
A kind word at the till.
A volunteer giving their time.
A customer choosing secondhand instead of new.
A child finding a toy they love.
A family getting something they need for less.
That is what this shop is built on.

We are here to help good things go further — donated items, community support, family budgets, and kindness itself.

Thank you to everyone who understands the heart behind what we do. Every bit of support helps keep this place going and helps us continue supporting our community

Pop in today for a mooch, a bargain, or just a friendly hello. 💛

08/06/2026

We’re closed today while we reset and prepare for the week ahead.

As it’s World Ocean Day, it’s a good reminder that what happens on land often ends up affecting our rivers, seas and oceans.

Plastic, textiles, packaging and unwanted household items can all become part of the waste problem when they are thrown away too quickly.

Choosing secondhand gives useful things a longer life, reduces waste, and helps cut down on the constant cycle of buying new, using briefly, and throwing away.

That’s one of the reasons community shops matter.

Every donated item that finds a new home is a small act of reuse. Every preloved jumper, book, toy, vase, mug, picture frame or pair of shoes is one less thing wasted before its time.

Behind the scenes today, we’ll be sorting donations, refreshing the shop, checking stock, planning displays and doing the many little jobs that help keep everything running smoothly.

We’re grateful to everyone who supports us with kindness, patience and encouragement.

Community shops take a lot of unseen work, but every donation, purchase, share and kind word helps keep good things moving.

We reopen Tuesday 9:30am–2:15pm.

Thank you for helping us give good things a second chance — for the community, and for the planet. 💛🌊
