We're pleased to be involved in this opportunity for people of all ages to ask questions. Please consider coming along for a chat.

David and Bryony of David Hartley’s Family Funeral Service are honoured to be hosting our second public event following the huge success of our open day in 2023.

Ever wondered what to do when a loved one passes away?

What are the guidelines surrounding death in different circumstances?

How do I make sure I put my funeral plan into place to take any unnecessary stress away from my family when I die?

How do I know my wishes will be fulfilled when I pass?

We are pleased to announce that we are hosting pop in sessions from 17-22nd March 2025 at the pop in shop on Frank St Barnoldswick.

This event will cover a range of impartial advice on all aspects of death, funerals and support for the surviving family and friends.

As a small business who were born and bred in Barnoldswick, it is of the greatest importance to us to be transparent in the work that we do within the community.

We are proud to be working in partnership with local ministers and charities who can offer guidance and assistance on anything you may require in your time of need and will be at the event throughout the week

Please don’t hesitate to come and see us and let us answer any questions you may have.

Just pop in, say hello and have a brew for an informal chat. We are happy to give impartial advice on funeral costs, pre planned and direct cremations.

Anything you need to know from what to do and how to prepare prior to the passing of a loved one, to what happens at the crematorium and beyond.

We look forward to seeing you there.

What to say (and to not say) when talking to a parent who has lost a child:
✨ Say their name. We love talking about them
✨ DO make an effort, it is recognised!

❌ DON'T compare the loss to a pet or grandparent
❌ DON'T imply that they should move on after a certain amount of time
❌ DON'T take the easy option and say nothing

If anyone else has advice for what to say and what not to say to a grieving parent, please add them below and help to educate people 💜

Bereaved Parents Awareness Month is recognised every year in July. It is dedicated to raising awareness about the grief parents go through after the unfortunate loss of a child and the kind of support needed to overcome this unimaginable grief. It’s common knowledge that parents should not have to outlive their children.

The thought is so painful that many of us avoid the topic because even though most of us haven’t experienced it, we know it’s one of the worst things that can happen to a person. But it is during this difficult time that the people most affected by the tragedy — the parents — must know that they are loved and supported.

'' When I go, don’t learn to live without me, just learn to live with my love, in a different way.
And if you need to see me, close your eyes, or look in your shadow, when the sun shines, I’m there.
Sit with me in the quiet and you will know, that I did not leave.
There is no leaving when a soul is blended with another.
When I go, don’t learn to live without me,
just learn to look for me in the moments.
I will be there "
